I HATE CROSBY |
Posted - 03/21/2008 : 18:56:31 Well, look at this, no Sid in the lineup, and what happens? The Pens vault into first place! I guess the NHL doesn't depend on Crosby.
I wonder what would have happened if Ovi got a 3 month injury, or if Loungo got a 3 game injury. Those are one one man teams right there folks. And I hope now, everyone has come to the realization Sid is not the Tiger Woods of hockey. I think it's so much better with him out (and the Penns doing better). TSN has to find other people to talk about. Had Pittsbergh struggled without him, all we'd hear is "Oh my god, the Penns are doomed", so thank god for this injury..And of course, it's even funnier since the injury came from him embellishing a hook, he could have got up before sliding into the boards....HAHAHAHAHAHA I haven't enjoy highlights, or games like this in year.

Actually, I know exactly what Beans is talking about with his "quiet arrogance" comment. I think he hit the nail on the head with that. It almost seems as if Crosby has a bit of a sense of entitlement. I'm not saying that his being told he is great for his whole life isn't somewhat responsible for that, but it just doesn't usually come off very well. He has a LONG way to go before he should even be mentioned in the same breath as Gretzky, Orr etc. Right now, he is FAR from being one of the best ever.
But the bottom line is this: In Sid's position, he is a lightening rod. He is going to have those who love him, those who hate him and those who couldn't give a damn. Thats life. Get over it.
With regards to Ovechkin, I don't think that was arrogance, I think it was over-exuberance. They guy just has an unbelievable love for the game. Somebody probably sat him down and had a little chat with him to tone it down a bit, because I don't recall hearing Ovechkin doing anything like that for a while. |

Posted - 12/22/2008 : 10:51:30 Gretzky was a marketing machine. His name was everywhere, and still is. Don't forget that number 8, alex ovechkin also has a clothing line. Does that mean he sucks too? What a terrible argument against Sid. Why can't people look past all the hype that the fans and media (mostly media) created and just see him for what he is. A DAMN good hockey player and a natural leader, not only for his team, but for the league as a whole. He may seem a little wimpy at times, but that is just your perception of things while watching your TV. He is a very passionate competitor and wears his emotions on his sleeve. I would have Sid on my team any day. Not too many guys captain their team to the stanley cup final, win a hart trophy and the art ross all by the age of 21.
I can't wait to see Crosby play in '10 for Team Canada |

Sorry, not going to buy that. That is one of the most pointless anti-Crosby arguments (although ultimately they all are pretty baseless).
That doesn't even have minute relation to hockey. It has to do with the fact that right now he is a hot commodity, able to make money off his name. When he wants to get married, start a family, and all that - he can use that extra cash. If he doesn't take the money, then it's stupid.
Gretzky quit PLAYING hockey even though he could have had money. That's class. Gretzky never said no to advertisers that I know of. Keep in mind I was born the year he retired, but I know of a few ads he's been involved in: Ford, McDonalds... he was on a Shreddies box that I owned at one point. Oh, and do a little research because he too owns his own clothing line. Check out the link

Whether a person likes Sidney Crosby or not has nothing to do with having pride in Canadian hockey. I thought Canadian hockey represented pride, playing your absolute hardest at all times throughout the hockey game, putting your team first, etc. I didn't realize that having pride in Canadian hockey actually means to like Canadian hockey players and only Canadian hockey players. Now i'm not saying that Sidney Crosby doesn't fit the description that i made, but i am saying that just because someone doesn't like Crosby doesn't mean they don't have pride in Canadian hockey. After all, Bertuzzi, McSorley, and Simon are all Canadian too!

You are just jealous that he is playing in the NHL. How can you hate anyone like that. He is one of the best players to ever play the game and he has only played three years. Lay off already.
Ok, so he's one of the best players to ever play why? That one Hart trophy? Those, what were it, 5 post season games he has under his belt. Those, like, 10 career goals he has? Then I guess you must think that Eric Lindros was the greatest athelete in the history of sports!
If Terrien plays Malkin and Sid evenly for the rest of their time together, I guarentee Malkin would score about 20 more goals a year than Sid. Malkin is 10000000000X more exciting to watch, and it's a damn shame he can't speak english well, because I think that's the only thing Sid can do that Malkin can't..As a result, all we see post Pens game is Sid talking.....
But I'll make deal here, if the pens win the cup, and sid leads the post season playoff points, then I'll never post a bad thing about him again, and I'll change my name to something romantic about sid.

Posted - 03/24/2008 : 07:12:20 It's good to see IHC back. I thought I was the only "hater" left. I'm surprised to find Beans on this side as well. I would have started this thread myself had I known that there are others that see the kid for what he really isn't. And that is that he ISN'T the "best player in the world". Not by a long-shot!
You know that Malkin is a better player than him. HE actually makes the team better than how much crosby makes it. I think if Malkin spoke better english we would see more of him in interviews. It's sad but I think that is probably one of the reasons that Sid still gets the favoritism of the media.
And yeah, that was funny to see how sid actually got injured. It looked like he was trying to embellish a hook, but it also looked like he was going something like 0.01 km/h on his ass.
It is frustrating and annoying that the sports news people can't talk of anything else other than the absence of crosby, rather than anyone or anything else. Even when you watch a Pens game without crosby you can't get 5 minutes of a game without the commentators throwing his name in the mix somehow. It's like they get paid a dollar for every time they mention his name or something.

That beind said, I have to provide another reason why I dislike Crosby. See Guest 9232. No disrepect to your opinion. You have a right to think what ever you want. However, I completely disagree with this view of Crosby. He is not Bobby Orr, he is not Waybe Gretzky, he's not Mario Lemieux. He is not a G.O.A.T. Not even close(yet). The guy does not walk on water. Sure, SOME NIGHTS he is head and shoulders above the rest of the players on the ice. But, not every night and not all season. I would put Heatley, Ovechkin, Lecavalier, Thornton, Malkin, Iginla, Alfredsson, and Gaborik(just off the top of my head) in the same class as Crosby. It's not like the 70's when there was Bobby Orr,,,,,,,,,,then the rest of the best. Or the early-mid 80's when there was Wayne Gretzky,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,thet the rest of the best. Not like the 90's when there was Gretzky and Lemieux,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,then the rest of the league. Crosby is in the class of elite player today, but not in a class by himself.
Sid is not head and shoulders above the rest like the greatest players of all time. Again, I say yet because one day he might be. But that day still isn't today.

I must say, normally you make some very strong points sir.
But on this, I actually expected a lot better of an answer/reasoning.
But to not like someone because others think highly of him, I simply just do not follow. I don't see the reasoning/logic behind it.
of course, you like anyone else here on these forums or anywhere else are entitled to their opinions, that I can not change nor would I ever try to. Unless, this was business and I wanted your money. :)

Posted - 03/23/2008 : 17:11:27 I just want to point out before this thread gets out of hand that IHC originally merely posted an observant comment about the performance of the Penguins without Crosby in the line up and that the NHL is in fine shape without him. Clearly that was the intent of the thread and therefore it should remain the subject of the thread.
From that point some people have chosen to go on the offense because of his forum handle "I Hate Crosby". If you don't agree with his commentary, either post something in reply to the contrary, or ignore it.

Posted - 03/23/2008 : 16:41:58 Why do you hate the player if the media pumps him up to much? He's not the one out there writing the headlines, or making the predictions on how well the team will do with or without him. He can't stop it, so he just tries to do one thing.... win. He plays hard and with a lot of passion. What else do you expect from him? You want him to go knock on the door of every reporter and commentator and ask them to shut up? Get a clue man. Other coaches in the NHL have said that he gets the points not from his skill alone, but from his work ethic. Other coaches praise him as a player, not just his own. You more than them? With all 0 years of pro hockey experience?
Thanks for all the insight on the "other side" of what the media reports though. None of us are smart enough to sift through the media BS without your lopsided petty analysis of sid the kid. You continue to enlighten us all with everything you hate about hockey. |

Posted - 03/23/2008 : 16:03:20 I'm not sure what "actions off the ice you guys are referring to" but I judge a player by the actions on the ice. And there are plenty of yappers, just like there's plenty to yap about: cheap shots, attempts to injure, etc., a lot of people that are trying to throw Crosby off his game. Anyway, last year the Penguins were 41-10-9 in games when Crosby recorded a point, 6-13-0 when he did not and 0-1-2 when he was out of the lineup. Sounds pretty valuable to me. In any case, Malkin is obviously an incredible talent, it seems he's right up there with Crosby and Ovechkin, so sure the Pens can still do well without Crosby, good for them! They'll be that much better with him in the line-up, despite their record before and after his injury. |

i wont deny the sid's pure talent and the fact he is a great hockey player, but he will never be close to one of my favorites, why well for the same reasons ihc brings up, his actions on and off the ice and his style of play, he is not the style of player i enjoy,, my favorites are guys like nash, iginla, doan, tootoo, shanahan and chris drury all true leaders all true grinders and workers and minus one of them all as brilliant as crosby with the puck, as you can see i mostly like power forwards..

Posted - 03/22/2008 : 14:00:04 You really dislike him as a person, eh? So you know him? Maybe Crosby, as a fifteen-year-old, took the last roster spot on a team of nineteen-year-olds that otherwise would have gone to you? Or maybe Crosby turned you down for a date, I HATE CROSBY, but YOU are no hockey fan. You are more of a whiner than I've ever seen in Crosby. You're mean-spirited and it seems to me you don't know what a good hockey player is. If you loved hockey, you would love everything about hockey that makes it great, including the great players who can score and record assists in all situations. (Who has the best points per minutes of ice-time in the league? Crosby, interesting!) Nonsense about his second assists, what a stretch. LAME. That guy has an uncanny nose for the net. What's particularly dangerous about him is that he incorporates his teammates like many others can't. But he can do it all, unlike Ovechkin who is more of an individualist hockey player (I still love him though). If Crosby took as many shots as Ovechkin, I'm sure he'd get plenty of goals too. Crosby IS the best, or if YOU want, ONE of the best hockey players in the world - whatever - he should be celebrated for making the game better just like Ovechkin and Luoungo, etc. If you hate the exposure he's getting then you need to complain about that, not about some twenty-year-old modest kid who works hard at the game, always trying to improve himself (even going so far as to learn how to score from his knees! WOW!) And Crosby has been playing this game against older players all his life, he's used to being the youngest on the team, but he's also the hardest working and is a student of the game, constantly trying to improve himself. He probably has the most passion on his team so why not give this guy the captaincy, he's inspiring. That's what the "C" is all about! Ever think that you provide as much exposure to this guy than all the networks combined? I think you secretly LOVE Crosby, you seem to really like talking about him. You're just a hater. You have NO argument against Crosby!! |

Ya maybe he'd be leading the league in points if he was still healthy, but he will never score 60 goals in a season, he'll just keep getting his lame 2nd man in assists because he coach has some hard on for him and puts him out all the time....And any person who respects the older guys on the team would never accept the captaincy at such a young age.
Look, Washington and Vancouver are comparable to the LA kings if you take lones stars out of the lineup. Look at the caps, how many players can you actually name on that team? And look at Vancouver, ummm, when Alex Burrows and Mason Raymond get headlines, you know your team can't score...Luongo and Ovi are the definition of MVP's!!!!!...Look what happened when Sid left, I think the other talented players on that team actually felt like they were allowed to flurish...Terrien is a s***ty coach and if you hear him in interviews, it's all "sid this, Sid that" , how do think that makes the rest of the team feel?
Sugar Ray over Hasek any day!
off topic slightly but what do you think of nash captain in columbus,, he's only 3 years older the the kid?

Posted - 03/22/2008 : 11:57:49 I don't wanna get back onto my smear campaign against Sid. Unlike Beans, I really dislike him as a person, and as a player.

Posted - 03/22/2008 : 10:25:23 Speaking from my own feelings, I can totally understand why people might 'hate' Sid. Reason being is the Tiger Woods syndrome. Have you ever watched a golf tournament that Tiger is not in every second shot?? I know I haven't in about 10 years!! Does Tiger deserve it. Well, yes! But it doesn't mean that there aren't literally 50 other golfers that are world class, just not Tiger Class.
That being said, I completely agree with IHC on this. Sid is not the Tiger of the NHL. There are 15-20 players in the same class. There is not a single player in the league that is head and shoulders above the rest a la Tiger, or a la Jordan.
What was happening the first 2 months of the season when the Pens were 11-11-2?? Everyone was saying that the Pens were too young and needed more experience. Then, they start playing better, and the reason is all of a sudden Sidney Crosby??? That made no sense to me. Then Sid gets hurt and EVERYONE wrote off the Pens. I myself didn't think they would play more than .500 hockey. What did they do??? They kicked some serious a$$!!!!
OK, here is the sickest thing about this:
THE MEDIA WAS STILL TALKING ABOUT SID!!!!! HE HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH IT!!!! All you heard was "Wait until Sid gets back." Blah, blah, blah!
That's the part that makes me sick and the reason I have a dislike for the Kid. Nothing against his skill or the person he is. It's dislike by association. I am sick and tired about hearing what Sid's favorite movie is and about his relationship with Mario over real hockey news!!!! I hate Crosby through the media. Plus, he has a quiet arrogance to him (just like Wayne and Mario did) but still has not done enough to prove that he is more than elite today. I totally agree that he is one of the best players in the league today, but he is still not even close to the best of all time. Yet, he seems to act like it.

Posted - 03/22/2008 : 10:07:43 I think once Crosby is 100% healthy. And Malkin plays every game thinking Crosby isn't in the line up. We'll have a dominant 1-2 punch to watch. Malkin picked up that slack, and once you throw the best player back in the line up, I think it will be something to watch. |
