Posted - 04/07/2010 : 06:02:02 Ryan Malone had his knee 'scoped' on March 16 and was expected to miss 10-14 days. He obviously took a little longer than that, but he played last night.
I guess I was confused by the Playoff Question title and the inquiry about Ryan Malone. Tampa Bay is way way out and has been for some time. |

Posted - 04/07/2010 : 05:50:58 I agree with Hugh - it'll be a very short leash with Theodore, and if going by past history, I'd say he's only one bad game away from losing the starting job to Varlamov, especially if Varlamov plays really well afterward (like last year).
Out of all the major contenders, this is the hardest to pick, and my gut feeling (after watching Varlamov play stellar against Pittsburgh last night in the victory - he saved a few sure goals) is that Theodore will somehow disappoint and lose the starter position.
My advice is lay off until your last pick and get Varlamov (if it's two or more goalies you choose). If only getting one goalie, I'd lay off it entirely and choose from the west, or take Fleury or Brodeur or Miller.
As for Chicago . . . I'd say Niemi, with much less likelihood of Huet getting in there. He last played on March 25th - a terrible 8-3 loss to the high scoring BlueJackets, lol - and his last win was March 5th. He has a brutal .895 save percentage, and although Chicago can also outscore their opponents, they should certainly stick with Niemi who hasn't shown any cracks yet.
I say Chicago stays with Niemi even if they lose a couple of blowouts in a row, so to me he's a safe bet.

Posted - 04/06/2010 : 18:02:39 Agreed on all counts. Theodore gets the right to start, although I believe like last year his leash will be relatively short. If they ever go down by 2 games in a series, expect to see Varlamov. So choose Theodore at your own peril. He could win you the cup on that team or be yanked in the first round. |

Neimi will likely get the nod for Chicago
Malone is DTD with a body injury.
The arena wall in chicago should be credited with a goal. |
