well 1st pick is basically a toss up between Thornton or Crosby, so Thornton was taken first overall, and then the second pick had a feeling that Zetterberg would stay on pace so he took second pick, and naturally as soon as they said 3rd pick i blurted out Crosby, lots of other players are projected to preform over Jagr this year, Spezza (was), Heatley, Alfredsson, The second round went like Malkin, Ovechkin, Lecavalier, Stastny, Jagr, Briere then finally Datsyuk which all of those picks are good for second round, except for maybe stastny

I took Jagr in the second round and Statsny in the third in my pool. My top pick was Heatley (4th overall)

Posted - 11/06/2007 : 21:52:36 Well here's 1 of 4 teams I have this year. 8 in the pool, I had 4th or 5th pick I really can't remember now. 7 forwards, 4 D, 1 goalie and 1 team.
1. Heatley 2. Spezza 3. Iginla 4. Zetterburg 5. Datsyuk 6.Ryan Whitney 7. Gaborik 8. Carle 9. Boumeester 10. Getzlaf 11. San Jose 12. Lundquist 13. Campbell
At one point I was in first by about 30 points. It's down to 13 now thanks to a lack of Ottawa games and some horrible numbers being put up by my defence. |

Posted - 11/06/2007 : 20:23:18 Yeah, I actually had a philosophy this year. I purposely went with younger guys (I'm usually the guy picking the old veterans).
I'm glad about Nash. If you look at Nash's past point totals, he hasn't really been a huge point-getter. I don't think he's ever cracked 60 points. But I had a hunch this might be a break-out year. Hitchcock being his coach will help, and I've seen him play for Team Canada where he's looked as good as anyone on the ice anywhere. Sooner or later, his NHL game was going to round out. It seems like maybe it will this year. |

Posted - 11/06/2007 : 19:47:25 Fly getting Rick Nash in the 6th round is very good. You pulled a team of young kids. That's a good team there Fly, you're just hoping Joe Thornton starts producing a little more. |

Posted - 11/06/2007 : 19:02:28 1 Joe Thornton 2 Paul Stastny 3 Eric Staal 4 Ryan Getzlaf 5 Anze Kopitar 6 Rick Nash 7 Brian Rolston 8 Zach Parise 9 Ales Hemsky 10 Chris Kunitz 11 David Legwand 12 Nicklas Lidstrom 13 Dion Phaneuf 14 Phil Kessel 15 Tomas Plekanec 16 Ryan Clowe
8 people, I had the 4th pick, which kind of sucked because I had to wait on both ends. 15 players, straight points, no goalies, with a dark horse pick you only get to keep if he makes it through the draft. I chose Clowe, who had a roaring start, and then got injured.
I'm in first right now, but it's close. A very knowledgable group of guys in this draft. No Iginla or Zetterburg going 60th overall in this one. |

Zetterburg in the second round of a thirty person draft? You pulled a rabit out of your hat there. I'd say he's the only reason you're in third. |

I should add that the pool was not a draft pool. Any participant could take any player subject to the following rules:
2 Forwards per division 1 defenseman per division 1 goalie per conference 1 Enforcer (0.5 pts per PIM)

Posted - 11/05/2007 : 08:28:29 I understand...BUT...Rivet still would have been there in the 9-12th round. At that point you should have bit the bullet and realized you weren't getting first tier D but you could still get 2nd and 3rd round tier in the later rounds leaving the 5th round for a better scorer. This could have bumped Guerin from your lineup. |

Posted - 11/05/2007 : 08:15:02 Haha.
No, but Lidstrom and a few other top defencemen were picked fairly early. Which, surprised me and caught me a bit off guard going so early. I feel Rivet will have a decent season, and with around four top D's gone. I felt it'd be a decent choice for a defencemen.
