You're gonna have to give a little more detail about weights to each category. Again I'll use Vinny vs Gaborik as an example.

I project Vinny to be in the 95 (40G, 55A) point range. Gaborik due to injury will be at 75 (35G, 40A). Vinny will likely be about -20 where as Gabby will be at +20. PIM - Vinny should be close to 60 whereas Gabby is at 30. PPP I'd say the same if not Vinny by about 5.

Who would you pick before the other based on the weights of each category? If you choose Gabby over Vinny based solely on the +/-, then your pool is too heavily weighted to a minor stat.

I don't think I will draft any of them, cause I really do not know how well they will perform, but I will be sure to keep an eye on them. Updated Goalies:

1. Brodeur
2. Lundqvist
3. Giguere
4. Nabokov

9. Kiiprusoff

17. Fernandez

Better?

Still needs work in my opinion. If I am making the proper assumptions, most pools get points for goalies on Wins and shut outs. If that is the case, there are some problems on this.

1) How is Kipprusoff 9th?? He had the 3rd most wins last season of any goalie and is right behind Broduer for the most wins in the past 3 season. What has he done so poorly to slide to 9th??? I would have Kipper in the top 3!
2) Price is stil lto high in my opinion. I am shaky on this as there is a ton of Pressure on Montreal. If they are on the slide at the start of the year, they may give Halak a go. Price is a big risk in my opinion.
3) Turco did not have as good a season last year as his team should have suggested. He played in less than 65 games and had 32 wins.
4) I would have Ward in my top 10. He had a solid year with 37 wins(4th most), over .900 save percentage, and 4 shutouts in 69 games. Plus, Carolina is going to get 16 games against Atlanta and Florida. Plus, the verdict is still out on Tampa Bay. Solid Goalie + Easy Conference = Easy Points.

How are the points being counted in this pool? Straight up points, or with +/- and PIM, Shots, PPG, PPP..??

In a straight up points, I would put Vinny in the top 7 for sure. The only bad thing about Lecavalier is his projected +/-. It will likely stink again because of the bad defense and lack of a goaltender.

Gaborik is the only offense on the wild. He is not playing with Demitra. The only other Wild player with any iota of offensive abilities is PM Bouchard. Not nocking PMB, but he is has a max upside of 65 on the wild. The only thing that can increase Gabby's value is a trade prior to the start of the season to a less defence oriented team.

BTW, last year was the first year since 2001 that Gaborik has played more than 80 games, where as last year was the first year since who knows when that VL played less than 80.

Last note, your first list looked eerily close to the TSN list.

Looks alot better, to me anyhow....I can't help but feel someone from the Rangers is going to be a fantasy force this year whether it's Drury, Gomez, Naslund or Zherdev...They're all to risky to draft high, but keep an eye on the waiver wire if they start putting up numbers.

I think Brent Burns should be on most peoples top 15, top 10 defensemen list as well.

and the goalies...

1. Price to high
2. Lundquist to low (especially in terms of fantasy value, he led the league in SO's last year)
3. Huet to low
4. Theodore to high
5. Where the hell is LeClaire
6. Price is way to high
7. Backtrom and Osgood both need to be top 10

How did Nash get moved down the list? He's an extreamly talented player who can only go up.

Last year the 40th most points by a forward was Tomas Plekanec, with 69. Saying A player ranked 33 or 34 getting 65 isn't that big of a stretch. I am agreeing with you that they should drop, and I have them borderline Top 40, but I think they should be in it. I guess I should do some more research, I thought Richards had like 60 Points last year, playing the whole season. In that case I can see him being Top 20. I am going to update my list, and we'll see where he falls.
MSC Posted - 09/23/2008 : 12:34:14
Just for the sake of arguing, 65 points last year wouldn't even put you in 45 let alone the top 40. So unless you're predicting a huge decrease in goals scored this year you're predicting Selanne and Sakic to get 65 points but you're still willing to take them in your top 40? Can I please get an invite to your league? Richards had 75 Pts in 73 games last year if he doesn't improve at all (highly unlikely) but playes 80 games we're looking at 83-90 points. That could easily put him into the top 15, in hind site I under estimated him and feel he's a lock for minimum top 20 numbers.
Guest8815 Posted - 09/23/2008 : 12:22:48
I think Top 20 is a stretch, Top 25 maybe. Than again I do not follow the East very much, and have seen little of his play. I think Sakic and Selanne will both come out with decent years, than hang up the skates. I see both getting a good 65 Points or so. I am weary about taking Bergeron, after missing an entire year from a concussion, you can't expect him to be back to himself already. I'd put Gaborik in Top 15, main reason being the style Minnesota plays. He is just as talented as any other player, just the system they use holds him back. Were they a run and gun team, I could see him breaking the 100 point plateau annually, pending injury of course. Briere, Boyes, Stastny and Morrow would all be in the Top 45, 50 for me. With probably Stastny knocking off Frolov for 40th.
MSC Posted - 09/23/2008 : 12:08:43
Mike Richards, he'll be pushing top 20 this year. Sakic and Selanne miss the top 40 cut. Briere, Stasny, Bergeron, Boyes, and Morrow should be there. Gaborik could easily be to 10.
Guest8815 Posted - 09/23/2008 : 10:19:52
Which Richards?
I don't see very much coming from Kovalchuk this season, he has no linemates, he's a one man show. I think he'll be lucky to crack out another 80 Point Season this year.
My defense aren't rated very well other than the Top 5, from there i just threw in 10 guys who I'd like to take. Didn't really rank them.
I agree I overrated Backstrom, I'd put him near 20.
Where do you suggest Kane and Toews go?
Same as the Sedin's? Maybe 35?
I think Frolov is Top 40.
Visnovsky, that was some bias, Im an Oilers fan and I guess I am just expecting too much out of him.
I stand by where I put Heatley.
I do not know what I was thinking with Gaborik...
Where do you think Selanne and Sakic will go?

MSC Posted - 09/23/2008 : 06:49:37
Kovalchuk, Richards, and Pronger seem a bit low....

Backstrom, Kane, Toews, both Sedins, Frolov, and Visnovsky seem a bit high...

Heatley and Gaborik seem far to low...

Sakic and Selanne seem far to high...
Guest8815 Posted - 09/22/2008 : 17:01:34
With a year of experience under his belt, and AO on his wing, I can see him putting up pretty good numbers. I do admit after looking it over, i over rated him, but he's still Top 20 in my book.
Axey Posted - 09/22/2008 : 14:14:06
Its funny that Backstrom is that high ... i could see it in about 2 years but not yet lol I mean sure he actually might end up there but based on last year and such he shouldn't be there.
