Posted - 01/09/2010 : 04:26:07 Thanks for your thoughts, gotomann. Well thought out and succinct. Potentially one too many question marks, however . . .
What does huge fan support and a crap team/organisation tell you? Well, it says "we are desperate for hockey, and are a huge, unserved hockey market". Another two teams please!
New Jersey, on the other hand, HAS to be run excellently, otherwise, the would just fail and die.

How about we say Detroit and New Jersey are 2 of the best run franchises in the last 15 years. That way no confusion or flag waving required and I believe it to be an accurate statement.
New jersey has always had stud players who are not brand names except for Brodeur. They usually lose them to free agency, but have one of the better systems to groom young up and coming players. I cant remember a draft where New Jersey picked in the top 5. Detroit can be said in the same breath with there excellent development system. |

Posted - 12/16/2009 : 04:59:40 We'll see about that.
I honestly think they are playing above their heads, and will fall back to reality by the end of the season - middle of the pack for the playoffs at best, fighting for a spot at worst.
How many lives can this franchise have anyways?

Posted - 12/15/2009 : 17:15:10 The Devils make a playoff run (like Detroit), on a very consitent basis. And the Devil's do it usually with 'unheard of' players.
Atleast not players people look at, mainly seasons beginning, and say "This guy will be a superstar."
People now know Parise, of course Brodeur, but you go past the top 3 or so, and i bet most moderate hockey fans could not name many.
