Posted - 07/12/2006 : 08:28:53 Anyone see this coming? Jim Playfair his assistant will take over. What a coincidence that the day after Wayne Gretzky praises Sutter as the Best Coach in Canada - he steps down. I understand he has GM duties as well but I would like to learn the reasoning behind this move.
And with a name like Playfair - can we assume that he won't seem as grumpy as Sutter? I don't think I have ever seen him smile. |

Posted - 07/13/2006 : 10:55:14 Apparantley this move was expected. I didn't see it coming either. I agree that Sutter has a lot to do with the Flames success and assume that Playfair has a lot of Sutter qualities in him. Kipper is a great goalie but he is not the only source of the team's success. Iginla is a great leader, Sutter a great coach. They also have a solid defense that like bablabouchka said - is the teams priority. |

You are completely wrong. The reason the Flames did/have done well is because of Sutter's defensive style. It's the same reason the Devils have done so well in the past. Notice how the goalies for either teams - Brodeur and Kiprusoff - are arguably the best goalies in the world? How hard could it be to post those kinds of numbers when your team plays defense as its only priority. Replace Kiprusoff with a mediocre to good goalie and the Flames do just as well, minus maybe a few games. |
