Posted - 01/02/2007 : 09:44:21 TSN reports that the Edmonton Oilers have claimed Petr Nedved on re-entry waivers. Rumored to be picked up by either Ottawa or NYR, the Oilers were not on the radar. Could this be a move designed to ship one of the other Oiler centres for a puck-moving D-man?
They are on the hook for half of his 2.36 million.
  Thoughts?

Nedved will get $600,000 for the rest of this year.
Besides, could you imagine the backlash from fans if they brought back a tool like Comrie! |

Posted - 01/03/2007 : 09:00:53 If they were going to bring any former player back then why wasn't it Mike Comrie? He'd be a better fit than Nedved. I'm not sure of the circumstances why Comrie left in the first place but he's twice the player Nedved is right now. I think Edmonton got the s#!t end of the stick gettin Nedved and Comrie going to Ottawa. Even if they are going to trade for a defenseman before the deadline, you'll get more in return dealing Comrie than Nedved.

I realize that they had to make room on the roster for Nedved but the sooner they can move him and get this young guy back the better.

I agree. The short term gain of Nedved (if he actually does anything) is a trade off for the development of a young player with a lot of potential. In my opinion, Nedved was a low risk acqisition by Lowe, but with low risk will come low reward. |

Posted - 01/03/2007 : 06:58:52 I think Kaberle would be a good fit here, but I think giving up talent like Lupal and Greene as well as Nedved is too high a price to pay for him. Lupal and Greene are both 5 years younger. Lupal scores when he actually gets ice time and Greene is only in his 2nd year and is already playing better hockey than the Oiler Captain.
Babs, I agree that Visnovsky is very underrated and I doubt the Kings would trade him at all, let alone for a bag of pucks (I mean Bergeron) and Nedved. I guy can dream thought.
I predict the Oilers will play with Nedved for 5 games. If they are win 3 or more, they will continue on until the trade deadline. If they lose more than two, you will see a trade. It will probibly be for a "fan favorite" but I think it may be needed. |

Posted - 01/02/2007 : 22:43:17 Why not move Greene, Lupul, and Nedved to the leafs for Kaberle? Edmonton can't get rid of Smith b/c he is 1/2 the heart and soul of the team along with Ryan Smyth. Besides Toronto can always fall back on McCabe and they need more firepower upfront. |

Posted - 01/02/2007 : 09:51:20 Being from Edmonton, the media has been very vocal about the recent Oilers slump. I think you are right, this is a move for Kevin Lowe to set something up for a defensemen. Nedved played here already and has voiced that he did not like playing here. His family did not like the West and prefer to be in the East. I hope this doesn't backfire for the Mighty Oil. But they have to do something to stay on pace with the incredibly tight Northwest division. |
