Posted - 11/17/2009 : 16:43:48 they only have 31 million towards the cap next year and if you trade toskala at 4 million for Giguerre at 6 the net increase is 2 million and as i said with mike van ryn being placed on the long term IR it takes his salary of 2.9 million off the cap. They wouldn't have to clear cap room.
There's a lot of dirty old occ's around thats the problem |

Honestly, I think Toskala is bound for Europe next season. Either the KHL or the Swedish Elite. It's really unfortunate as well because there has not been a situation in the past 10 years were a pathetic defensive team has made their goalie look worse than TO has made Toskala look in the past 2 seasons.
You know what is really funny though, I read last week that if the Monster isn't signed to an extention by Christmas, there is a good chance he won't sign until the off season. However, he would be an RFA and apparantly there is more than one GM out there that would push and offer sheet.
Can you imagine, Burke without a single goalie, dropped Pogge, if they finish really low their Top 5 pick will be in Boston with years left of watching Komisarek and Beauchemin screw around in the defensive end. Isn't Kaberle a UFA as well?? And Blake???
Wow
Sorry Leaf Fans. Sounds like a nightmare but it's closer to reality than you think.
How bout a Toskala for Giguere trade. Giguere would definately be the #1 in TO and get the playing time and Anaheim might pick up Toskala's overated salary to move Giguere along quietly. TO is a team far enough away not to bite them in the butt, if Giguere returns to form. Only thing that would be problematic for this trade would be for the leafs to clear cap space.
Worst case scenerio Toronto goes into the offseason with a clear goalie bench and gets a UFA or trades NYI for one of the 3 they have handy. Its not the end of the world. |

Posted - 11/17/2009 : 16:15:54 Blake and Kaberle both have a couple years left on their contract. As for Hagman his no trade clause expires at the end of this year so at 3 million he will definately be trade bait in the off season or at the deadline next year.
I hope they hang on to whitey he just a real character role player that are really hard to find these days. I can't see burke letting gustavsson walking. I would like to see Finger placed on waivers and sent down if not claimed because his cap hit is ridiculous at 3.5, nice little cliff fletcher legacy there.
With mike van ryn's career in question that definately takes 3 million off the cap this year and possibly next depending on the results of the surgery.
Beauchemin has a ring and Komisarek is an all-star maybe lets give them more than 20 games not saying im happy with their performance but christ i think they get more than a quarter of a season to prove their worth.
I posted in another thread about the possibility of aquiring Nathan Horton who i think would be an excellent fit in Burkie's "truckulent" environment so with van ryn's salary gone its certainly a makeable deal. |

Posted - 11/17/2009 : 15:06:59 The situation is dire...
No one will pickup Blake for this year + 2 more for a $4 million cap hit. He's 35 can't stay on his feet, can't keep a puck and can't score anymore.
Toskala's reputation has been destroyed so his value is pretty much nothing.
Kaberle has one more year after this one. I can't see Burke trading him unless the return is a no.1 draft pick (or 2 - yeah right who would trade away 2 no.1 draft picks?) plus some other key pieces
I'd say our most tradeable assets are Hagman, White and Pony, they are pieces a team could actually use and relatively low cost. |

Posted - 11/17/2009 : 14:06:28 You'd maybe get a bag of chips and some donuts for Toskala at this point... no point in trading him really. And agreed with Alex116. Then again cheering for the leafs this season maybe a serious sign of brain damage, so maybe we shouldn't joke around. |
