How long will it take Wilson to trun around the Leafs?

Or will he not be around to see it?

heres a link for the Wilson arguement

http://www.cbc.ca/sports/blogs/2009/11/leafs_woes_make_for_gm_headach.html

If Wilson is bashing his players and Burke takes offense, I dont know if Wilson will last the year. The players deserve critisizm, but tell the players. Dont tell anybody who wil stop and listen. At some point the players not listening to Wilson behind the bench and continuing to listen to him in the media, will cause him a quick exit.

I just have to say that the Leafs are not losing because of missing chances. They are losing because they are not very disciplined and they play horrible team defense. It's hard to win hockey games if the team nearly 100% of the time give up the first goal and are playing from behind almost always. The Leafs have scored only 10 goals in the first periods this year and gave up 24. Most often, going into the 2nd period down 1 or 2 goals spells trouble for most any team.

The one things I would pin on Wilson is the undisciplined part. You can't be successful taking 8 or 9 penalties a game. Only TB, OTT, CAR, and STL take have more PIM's than Toronto. And with a team playing poor defensively and a dead last in the league PK of 71 %, you simply do not win hockey games.

The thing about Burke is in the past, he has always held firm in that players who are not performing will not play. That has kind of fallen by the way side. Up to this point(at least in the game I have watched) Luke Schenn has been not only the worst Leaf, but the worst player on the ice. Beachemin is either bad or average and not much more. Kaberle is one of the few lights on the back end. Ultimately, the best complete player the Leafs have today is Ian White. And as much as I really love the way Ian White plays, you are not destined to win many games when White is your best player.

I do agree, however, that Wilson is safe through this season. Not only because Burke has trust in Wilson, but also that I don't think a coaching change will make the end result of the season any different.

Next season, Burke will add more/remove more and Wilson will have 20 games. If they are not in a playoff position through the first 20 games next year, Wilson is history.

Good coach, not enough tools to do what has to be done this year.

I agree with everything you said except the last part. Burke has a 6 year deal, he isnt going anywhere even if Boston drafts in the top 3 this year. If the NEXT pick is in the same category than many leaf fans will feel the same as you, but I think he needs at least half of his contract to provide some sort of evidence that he is building a winning team. For me, the evidence is already there, this project just needs another off season or two to address the teams needs. (to be a playoff calibre team, not a cup contender..... they need alot more years to become a cup contender)

Wilson has proved in the past that he can coach skilled teams (San Jose) and non skilled teams (Anaheim, Washington) so im willing to be patient to see what he can do. Last year the leafs were actually alot better than I thought they would be, last year this is how I thought they would be, 3-16 or whatever, yet this year is the year I thought they would look more like last years team except have better goaltending and improved defensive play.

There is no "I" in team, but there is an "M" and an "E".

Burke can't even think of firing Wilson until after the Olympics, they are tied together until then. If the US are very successful (say gold or silver) then Burke will look like he knows something about putting a team together and Wilson will look like he can coach given better players (I know it's a different situation given the All-star squads but it is still another indication of their respective abilities as GM and coach). If the US have a very disappointing run in the Olympics then Ron's time could be very short if the Leafs keep losing. If the Leafs give Boston a top 3 pick then Burke could be next.

The problem is, who do you replace him with if he is fired? There isnt 1 guy not working in the NHL right now id rather have behind the bench than Ron Wilson.

Wilson and Burke are teamed up for the olympics as well, i just cant see Brian firing Ron this year. Wilson simply doesnt have the horses to get the job done properly, I thought he had the horses to get to the playoffs, but I was way off.

He managed to get this Leaf squad to overacheive last year, they scored a ton of goals and would have been much closer to a playoff spot if it wasnt for an injured Toskala and a washed up Joseph and a never was in pogge between the pipes.

The way this year has started was supposed to be the way last year was and vice versa.

The Leafs look like a disaster right now, but if you are watching the games closley you can see that it isnt for a lack of effort or because they have tuned out the coach. They just keep losing tight games because they cant finish on their chances. They constantly out shoot their opponents, but other than Kessel they dont have guys who can get into prime scoring areas and finish.

Somehow last year they managed to do this, but so far this year the team is just completley snakebitten around the net.

I would give Wilson until about the 20 game mark NEXT season before I consider firing him... Burke needs to try and get some more talent up front for him.

There is no "I" in team, but there is an "M" and an "E".

No way does Burke fire Wilson this season. Not happening.

We'll see how the Leafs end the season, and then we'll see how short the leash is on his coaching tenure.

I don't know if Coach Wilson has any chance turning this group of Leafs around. The Western style of play that he and Burke preach to this team isn't going to happen overnight that's for sure but I do think there has been ample time to gauge how Wilson's coaching has affected this team. It's funny cause if he was Paul Maurice I think he would've been fired already but Burke has already said he won't be firing Wilson any time soon. I think we will see a cache of new players coming and going before we see Wilson turning this current group around. I would love to see the Western style of play work out east but to me it seems most teams in the east play with finesse and skill which as much as I hate to say it the Leafs don't have...except for Kessel. So the answer to the question is never.

By trade deadline, Toronto are either in playoff contention or looking for a new coach.
