Posted - 12/23/2006 : 07:35:45 Well as much as I appreciate the fact that Koivu has had to deal with things that most people don't, that is not a measure of a good hockey player. He is a leader, no question. One of the top 5 in the league. I still feel that Selanne's offensive prowess puts him far ahead of Koivu. And, your arguement that Koivu is better defensively is something I disagree with. Kouvi is +9 in his career and has 4 (-) seasons and has never been better than +8 in a season. Selanne on the other hand is +79 in his career. He has been in the playoffs 7 times in 16 years. So that also puts him on teams that did not make the play offs 9 times and he is still a (+) player.
I am thinking if you asked all the GM's and Coaches in the league who they would pick or want on thier team, the majority would take Selanne. |

Koivu has scorer 20 or more goals in 2 of his 10 seasons (this will be his third) while Selanne has 4 of 16 season that he didn't score more than 20. Selanne is more than a point a game guy for his career, and Koivu is not. The fact that Koivu may be the most resilient man in hockey does not make him a better player.
Getting points does not always nescessarily mean you are the best player, there is more to hockey then just getting points, the guy is a leader, has come back from more physical problems then most will ever dream off, he is the leader of his team, and his team is doing well this season, better than mist would probably expect, and he does not play on a completely stcked team like your boy selanne. He is way better defensively, and plays a more rounded game. Selanne, is all offense, and that is his game. Saku has more heart than Selanne could even dream of. Character players in my books are better then offensive points any day of the week.
P.S. I voted other, cause the best fin as I stated earlier is Mikka Kiprusoff.

It's OK, it seems to happen quite often around the hockey world :P
Regardless, I voted Selanne without a doubt in my mind. |

I left goalies off the list since their positions are so different from the others and it's hard to compare, but I completely forgot about Toskala. |

Posted - 12/21/2006 : 19:29:15 Kimmo Timonen(sry not sure of thats correct spelling) should be on the list being a pretty good Finnish defensmen. |

Posted - 12/21/2006 : 19:24:40 I agree Babs, they both should be on the list. I still think Selanne is the man in this group. He may be the best Finnish player in history, with Kurri a pretty close second. Selanne didn't have the "Great" support that Kurri did.
(Get it, "Great" Support. Damn am I ever funny!) |
