Last night, Claude Julien chose to sit (not dress) Tyler Seguin vs the Jets, for missing a team meeting. Did he make the right call?

You missed my point, although I don't know how, considering you lay it all out:

When was the last time the top scorer and arguably top star of an NHL team sat for a game because they were "late for practice"?

Would love to hear your many examples.

Someone already pointed it out, but it wasn't his first time missing the team meeting in the morning.

He's still young, so it's a learning experience. Hockey is a team game and if anyone doesn't want to be a complete team player - showing up on time, attending the meetings, playing hard, etc etc. - then it's the right call to bench them to get them to put the team before themselves.

I don't know if it was just sleeping in or he wasn't there or if there is something else at play and they're just playing it off as sleeping in, but you would think if it was just simply sleeping in his roommate would wake him.

And it has happened before. Pretty sure there was something in sports news a year or two ago with someone on the Blues missing morning meeting and getting scratched for a couple games. But the bigger the name of the player the more likely we are to hear about it. Coaches do have to give some sort of explanation as to why the star didn't dress.

I think what people forget in this case is that you are not just sending a message to a young guy, but rather to the whole team that you have to take responsibility. It's a decision made for the long term and in my opinion the team made the right call.

Great points Pasty, and I'll add this important one:

F. Tyler Seguin is the leading scorer and point getter for the defending cup champ Bruins, the new rookie face of the franchise and future team star, and management is ok with sitting him

That alone tells you something was very wrong. And of course, it's their right to keep that stuff internal/private, I would do the same, sure. But clearly, it wasn't just a "sleep-in" moment . . . you don't sit your leading scorer for just sleeping in.

At least, I have never heard of that happening, without there having been some more substantial reason.

No matter how good the kid is, or how good any player is.
They have to adhere to the rules of being a team! that includes being at EVERY practice/morning skate/team breakfast/ whatever it may be. If seguin wants to be part of a team (which you actually won't make it in the NHL despite how much skill you have, unless you are part of a team) then he needs to realize the he has to function as a member of this team, not doing whatever the hell he feels like. These guys are paid a HELL of a lot more money than you or I, that paycheck is supposed to cover a lot more than just showing up for games, earn your pay, show up for any practice or whatever the team is doing, I think the question isn't does Julien realize how lucky he is to have Seguin, the question should be does Seguin realize how lucky he is to have millions of dollars in his future, just for playing a game he loves.

Back to the question though, i voted YES. What i'm curious about though is whether or not Claude Julien realizes what he's got in Seguin. What i mean is, did he do this, knowing that sooner rather than later, this kid is gonna be more or less "the guy" there and a benching like this a year or two down the road, may not be as simple as it was this time around! Here's hoping he did it as an attempt to help the kid mature and learn from his mistakes.

Any Bruins fans out there have any info on how he's been as a citizen sotospeak? If Pasty's suggestion is right, and if i'm correct in assuming what he (Pasty) was implying, i'm wondering if there's been any rumours of him out partying / picking up, early in his career?

Chirelli (not sure if i spelt that correctly) did say it is not the first time Seguin has missed morning meetings and that added to his benching

I just don't understand why one of his team mates did not wake him up!!

if he forgot to switch his clock to Winnipeg time he would have been an hour early ,, not late,,, theirs something we will not find out about that happend here

not saying it's a big deal but couple things don't add up

A. Most people use their Cell phones as alarms and cell phones update their time zones automatically

b. the clock in his hotel room was probably already on Winnepeg time

C. if he really was on Boston time as i said before he would have been up early not late

D. I`m willing to bet the coaches have the hotel wake up service call every player in every room to wake them,

E. Players don`t ususally have and individual room so why was his roomate not late and or didn`t wake Tyler up

All this simply points to the kid wasn`t in his Hotel room at all that morning... why well their are a few reasons a 20 year old wouldn`t be in his room ......
