After two long OT games on Wednesday night, the whole hockey community is talking about changing the OT format. What do you think?

you need to keep it how it is. Otherwise its just not playoff hockey.

When life gives you lemons throw them at the Ottawa Senators and their fans and hope it gets them in the eyes ;)

Dont mess with our game !!!
a playoff game shouldnt be settled through a shoot out !

It would be really dissapointing to see the Stanley Cup be decided in a shootout, just keep it as it is. The overtime is sooo exciting.

It won't change, that's not really the issue. They're just discussing it, as more of a compulsive reaction to the fact that 6 OT periods were played in two games on the same night.

This is one of the best things about playoff hockey! There will be an outcry if they change this. I, for one, will certainly start a campaign against any such thoughts. This is one of the only rules left that is strictly for the fans.. not the NHL, not the NHLPA, not the broadcasters, .. but just the FANS.

They cant change the format that is in place right now.
4 O.T' s to solve the dallas, vancouver game. Doesnt get more exciting then that

Always next year!!

What a disgrace that people are voting for a shootout in any way shape or form. Must not be hockey fans for long. That type of fan wil be the death of the NHL as we know it.
bonfire420 Posted - 04/13/2007 : 09:00:38
I don't think the NHL will change this until they have a game that lasts all night... maybe 8 OT periods or something rediculous like that (can you imagine going to bed because you're too tired to watch, then waking up the next morning and the game is still on???) . Only then will they consider changes to the OT format in the playoffs.
Beans15 Posted - 04/13/2007 : 08:38:21
By the third overtime period is it even exciting anymore. Most shifts are like 20 seconds of make a rush and get off the ice. I think 4 on 4 after 2 periods would have the same quality of hockey as the first two overtimes.
bablaboushka Posted - 04/13/2007 : 08:25:00
Then they are not true hockey fans...(or have young kids, haha)

I think enough changes to the game have been made to increase scoring opportunities and if teams like Dallas and Vancouver last 4 OT periods WITH those changes, then they are truly equal opponents and they deserve to battle it out.

I would expect a couple more OT's in this series.
bonfire420 Posted - 04/13/2007 : 08:18:21
I'm definately in the minority... I think they should play 2 or 3 OT and if the game is still tied then play 4 on 4. I am totally opposed to deciding it by a shootout but the 4 on 4 format would definitely open it up and create some goals. I just know from watching the Vanouver game a lot of the fans started to leave after the 2nd and 3rd OTs... if they knew there was 4 on 4 coming up they might stick around for the 4th OT.

Anybody that's ever been to a multi-OT game will tell you to keep it. It's a long-lasting memory for the players, the fans, and should always be a part of the game.

I agree with Saku. In overtime, it is the most exciting thing to watch. You are always nervous when the puck is in your teams end. It is the betst hockey in overtime.

Keep it the way it is. I was there watching the Mooseheads in OT and every minute you were on the edge of your seat.

Viktor Kozlov is also my hero!!!
Buddyno2000 Posted - 04/12/2007 : 21:58:03
It's great the way it is but maybe 4 on 4 hockey wouldn't do any bad either because after a while players get tired so they skate slower take less shot etc...
and I pray to god they never introduce shootouts in playoff hockey because that would be a shame.
bablaboushka Posted - 04/12/2007 : 21:03:13
It couldn't change, it's awesome the way it is. Although I hate that the games here are always so late. I fell asleep watching the Stars-Canucks game after the 1st OT, even though I usually stay up for all of every playoff game unless I work the next day. But to think that this one only ended at 4:30 in the morning here is pretty inconvenient!
Canucks Man Posted - 04/12/2007 : 20:53:33
Last Night was an epic epic battle, what a way to start a series. I love the unlimited OT where after a while you feel like nobody will ever score, then all the pressure is released with that all important what could be a series making or breaking goal, I would never ever change the way it is.

CANUCKS RULE!!!

If they actually called penalties in overtime the games would rarely last 4OT. After the 5 on 3 Dallas had early in the second there was not another penalty called in the last 2 1/2 periods. Yeah my rear end there were no penalties for 2 1/2 periods especially the way penalties have been called so far in these playoffs.
BigShow Posted - 04/12/2007 : 19:47:37
Yeah, messing with this would be heresy. There is too much history to mess with this.

Shootouts, aren't hockey. At best they are part of a skills competition. And you can bet that if ties went to shootouts we'd see the game move to a crawl. So the teams with the best shootout aces and best shootout goalies would be playing 4 men back to force a shootout every game.

The sudden death overtime is so exciting. They have to keep it like that.

I love the unlimited sudden death OT last year when the Oilers had like 2 triple overtime games WOW were they ever intense.
