The New York Rangers are facing the Buffalo Sabres in round 2. Who is winning this series? My guess is Rangers in 6 or 7. The Rangers are very physical while Buffalo is agile. Buffalo has good speed and good offence and goaltending. New York has defence, power, and force. I think it will be a great series. What about you guys?

That's exactly right. The Sabres have got to start playing a full game for the last 10 minutes or so they were dominating the game. I read that Ruff worked really hard on special teams yesterdays pratice and todays.

The biggest issue was that they couldn't see it cross. The edge of the goalies pad was dark, so they couldn't tell if it went in or not. I would have said a goal but I guess it's not up to me.

Maybe the ref didn't call it because he didn't want to get mugged by the Rangers fans.
willus3 Posted - 05/01/2007 : 20:22:43
I would have called it a goal. Looked over the line to me.

PainTrain Posted - 05/01/2007 : 20:01:39
Ok so tell me did you think that wrap around attempt by Danny Briere is a goal?

Being a Sabres fan and all I have to say that was a goal But even my dad who is a Rangers fan though it was a goal, the puck clearly crossed the line. They waved it off because it was inconclusive. Witch makes sense but if they were just logical they would have called it in because the puck was clearly in. So now Buffalo will go back home and are gonna put up a better effort than that and Buffalo has got to limit there turnovers.

Did you hear booing when Malik touched the puck at the start of the game? I did. Man, that just goes to show how seriously they take the game... If you mess up they'll let you hear it.

If kicking was allowed and it was easy, everyone would start doing it and there'd be no need for sticks. I dunno, it just seems dumb to say you're allowed to score with your feet.

Mik - I just think that given that the puck is at the same level as the players feet, it is natural that sometimes the puck may bounce off those feet. It is often difficult to determine what is a "distinct kicking motion" and what isn't. Today the guy was going to the net and I think that even if the puck wouldn't have come as it did, his feet would still have basically gone in the same direction and manner. Maybe I am wrong but, if I am, I really don't think it's such a tragedy to the fundamentals and traditions of hockey to allow that goal today, or even to allow one where the player actually does clearly purposely kick the puck into the net. As I say, the puck is at their feet so there is in fact some similarity to soccer. There is a huge distinction you can make between kicking the puck with your foot and, for example, somehow forwarding or tossing the the puck with your hand. There, I could better understand the need to protect the fundamentals and traditions of hockey.

Anyway, I really don't think players would kick that much even if the rule were removed as a purposeful kick is often harder than using the stick (though, admittedly, there would be the odd case of it when a guys stick would be tied up in front of the net). But to me that's okay - it would become another skill to teach your players.

Just my opinion.

Absolutely agree.New Yorkers are loud, rowdy fans for any sport. I've found most of the series in the second round quiet. After watching the first round series it seems like everyone has gone mute. The Ottawa Pittsburgh series was excellent for fan support. Especially Ottawa. It could be how the fans are mic'd too i guess.

The Sabres really weren't playing as well as usual today. But if the Rangers had to fight that hard to beat a team who wasn't even performing their best, that says something right there...

Gotta give 'em credit though, they played a nice game.

I'm going to be honest here and being a Sabres fan and all but honestly Rangers played better in game 3 even in game 2. The Sabres have got to do one thing better and that is shoot the puck and make sure it hits the net because garbage goals count. And that was not a hard hitting game, the Sabres could go out and hit the Rangers and they wouldn't expect it so that means turnovers and that means Buffalo's speed will take the puck and score.
Mikhailova Posted - 04/29/2007 : 15:18:29
He kicked it. I saw the replay like a dozen times and his stick was clearly ABOVE THE ICE the whole time and not touching the puck and his left foot was out in front of his right and he was pushing the puck toward the goal. He kicked it. But it doesn't matter anyway, the Rangers won.

Man that game was long. The unlimited 20-minute OT rule in the playoffs is ridiculous. The players get tired out (just about everyone was red in the face and sweating a lot) and don't play as well, and the game goes on and on and on for 80+ minutes. And I can't believe the Sabres lost. All that waiting for nothing!
andyhack Posted - 04/29/2007 : 13:54:21
What do you guys think of that second Rangers goal being called back today? I don't think he kicked in it. But even if he did, what's the deal with that rule? Who cares if someone uses a "distinct kicking motion"?
PainTrain Posted - 04/28/2007 : 14:38:19
They're shooting high on Lundquist that's how they're scoring.

It's a long series, but NYR will have to come with a much better effort to have a chance. I still think that Buffalo need to stay out of the penalty box, and they didn't do a really bad job of that last night but they could get stung if they take a lot of penalties.

Lindy Ruff is a huge impact in this series. He is doing a great job of line match ups and knows when to go with certain guys.

They still haven't put together 60 minutes of hockey yet, which is a scary thought. I thought they played well in the 2nd and part of the 3rd.

Honestly, everything is pointing to the sabres winning especially if NY isn't going to show up to play after the first period.

Well if the 1st period of action is any indication of how the series will be played, the NYR do not stand a chance. I am hoping they will be able to pick up their play for the rest of the game and quit chasing the puck, but it looks like they are going to rely solely on their netminder to stop everything that is thrown his way.

Agreed. I'll be at the game tonite (look for me! I'll be front row on the aisle...first section next to the Rangers bench).

Back on topic...I think the Rangers are gonna pummel the Sabes one of these games and "awake the sleeping giant." This will be all they need on the way to the Cup Finals.

Yes Mik, they did sweep the season series. But you failed to mention that all of those games happened on or before December 1st. The two teams have had virtually the same records since March 1st including the playoffs with Buffalo at 15-9 and NYR at 16-7. Also, 3 of the 4 games were one goals difference and the Rangers had a 30% PP against Buffalo in those 4 games. Like I said in my first post, if Buffalo stays out of the penalty box, they will be ok. If not, look out. This series will not be a walk away like people think. Mark my words.

Heh...I'm actually chuckling to myself while reading some of these posts. I hope you guys know how to say goodbye in Czech so you'll have it handy for when the Rangers lose. Because I'm a geek and I want to prove my point, I went through and looked up the results of all the Buffalo-NYR games. Assuming I didn't miss any, the two teams played 4 games against each other in the regular season. Buffalo won all of them.

If the Rangers somehow wind up winning, you can all laugh at me, but until then, Fuhgeddabootit! (Hope you've all seen the Bobby Granger commercials )

I totally agree Willus. Just looking at the last series, NYR played a team playing poorly and stepped on them. Buffalo played an inspired team and beat them. However, they sure didn't look very good doing it. NYI was in pretty much every game while ATL wasn't even close to sniffing a win against the Rangers. Buffalo is going against the hotest goalie in the East right now, and a rested team of veteran skilled players some of who have gone deep in the playoffs before. Miller can expect about 10 shots more per game than against NYI and many of them will be quality chances. Buffalo will win if they stay out of the penalty box and take advantage of their chances. I just don't see it happening. The Rangers will split in Buffalo, win both in NY, lose game 5 in Buffalo, and end it in 6. Rangers vs. Ottawa in the East Final.

PuckNuts Posted - 04/23/2007 : 14:51:35
The Islanders were playing their best hockey at the end of the season, and they carried it into the playoffs...

Buffalo will pick up the pace against the Rangers and take this series in 6 games...

Mikhailova Posted - 04/23/2007 : 13:08:27
Buffalo played lazy hockey against the Islanders probably because they figured the Isles series would be an easy win. They're an 8th place team, Buffalo's first. But security is your worst enemy in sports. If you say "Oh it's OK, we're ahead, we'll win this", you get caught in a false comfort zone and when you lose you're shocked. (Just ask the Russians from 1980. I know I keep bringing up Lake Placid, but hey it's relevant to everything!)

I think Buffalo will play harder against NYR, especially after their sweep of the Thrashers. The Sabres have been acing the season, they aren't about to let themselves flunk out. They're taking this series!!
