Crosby is a lot stronger defensively than people give him credit for. I think it's a natural response to say a big scorer doesn't play D, but who backchecks harder than Sid? No one. Who is more tenacious on the puck than Sid? No one. And in case people hadn't noticed, he is hitting a lot more this year than ever (no, I have not missed a Pens game yet and don't plan to, either).

I picked Sid in a walk.

There are two kinds of people: those who slam Sid for his all-around game and those who actually watch the Pens games and not just highlights. I'm one of the latter. I always laugh when the announcers from other cities say he needs to work on his defence so he can be more like Malkin. That's hilarious. Malkin is terrible defensively. It's just proof to me that people make judgements based not on what is true, but what they think should be true.

all around? know doubt Lidstrom. His defenseive game is just too good, and if theres a rush, hes not scared to get in it. As much as Crosby is good you just never see him backchecking that hard. And come on PHANEUF and how can you have an all around good goalie

I personally believe that comparing a goalie and a skater is like apples and oranges. For that matter, it's hard to compare defense and forwards as well as the positions have different responsibilites and different skills to play at a high level.

That being said, I personally believe that the best player in the league today is Iginla. He plays hard all the time, fantastic offensive skills, solid defensively, tough, aggressive, and the guy hates to lose.

I would say Crosby hands down, but I don't believe he is nearly as strong as Iginla defensively.

All around, my top three players, in this order:

Iginla
Lecavalier
Crosby

If you are under the age of 15, please do some research before you make a post about anything pre-1997.

How can a goalie be an all-round player? They have 1 position, 1 job and can't do anything else but keep the puck out of the net (with other minor jobs, passing, clearing etc.) . But I say Crosby, he's got speed, intelligence, magical hands (shooting, deking, passing), surprising amount of strength for his size, a knack for the net, makes everyone around him better and isn't horrible defensively.
