Of these aging (35+), but active American vets, who would you prefer to have on your team heading down the stretch?

Schneider is one of the most injury prone players in the nhl, would you really want him? Thats why I would take Chelios he has great leadership, talent and experience

Just look at my name is what i meant.
Forsberg to the Stars?

Go Stars

Def not !!!
the stars have plenty of good vets
and don't need forseberg.
What they need is guys to work around the good players.
Now for the question:
You have to give this to Chelios.
He is 46 I belive
and he is no where near done.
He would be a great pickup

I'll take Chris Drury, he's somewhat of an aging vet. He's entering that period now I'd say.

I would have to take Chelios. Consistency is key. You know he loves the game, and will give you his best every shift.

But, no one seems to mention Bill Guerin. He's still a strong player at his age, and he can put up a point or two. :)

Alls I ment about Chellios is that he has 5-10 years on all the other guys on this list when he was 35 instead of 46 he was alot more dominate on both sides of the puck. Your a hundred percent right if I was looking for Defensive defenceman Chellios would be a heck of one to add but I thought i mentenioned that

MSC: I agree with you. We are just talking about this stretch run. Not for the next 10 years.
For this stretch run I would go with Chelios. Probably the smartest hockey player out there. If it was for a few years then I would probably pick Modano
MSC Posted - 02/05/2008 : 05:23:24
You're looking to add a player down the stretch to augmentee the exsisting team, not a player that will turn the team around. Guest is right at the end of the day it all depends on what your team needs. Chelios might not be the same player he was 10 years ago no, but I'm curious which of these players are the same as they were 10 years ago? All I'm saying is if I'm the GM of a team looking to add someone to my team it's going to be a top 4 defeseman who's been there before and knows what it takes to win. On a play off caliber team most of the forwards mentioned would probably be relegated to the third line, possibly the second. I think you'd get more production and quality minutes out of Chelios or a healthy Schnieder for that matter.

I ment to add Guerin or thachuk who ever is cheaper or performing better if i'm in need of the power forward type. Also to say Schneider is the healthest seems a stretch to me wasn't he hurt this year for a while and I do beleive Kronwell and Schneider being hurt was a big part of Detriots downfall to the Ducks last playoffs.

beauty shot at the leafs Alex their a frustrating bunch. Depends what my team is looking for is it a cheap depth forward I go with J. R. he can still add a little offence seems to be playing the role he's been given San Jose well and as a wild card you know he wants a cup. If I'm looking for scoring up front I take Modano over Weight and Thachuk if I have the cap room. Once again depends what I need on the blueline do I need defence or a powerplay guy thats how I'd choose between Schneider and Chellios. But to stand with one guy I'd say Modano hands down to me he's the name that jumps out at you. Chellios does to but then you remember well he is still a solid d-man he's not the player he was even 10 years ago.

Inatangibles are wonderful. They do not neccessarily make your team a playoff team. Look at Toronto Maple Leafs a few years back. I couldn't tell if they were running a senior's home or a hockey team. And we saw how far they got.

I hate to say it but at 46, how much skill are you losing out on to get experience and leadership? I would not pay to have a middle aged man in my room. I would pay to have a late 30s guy with a winning history and some talent of note to go with it.

Do not get me wrong, Chelios is the bomb. But the others on the list are just, I guess, more of the bomb..

I'm going with Chelios, the guy gives you tough minutes in key parts of the game. He doesn't make mistakes. And if there's one thing he's done in his career, it's win. So if you're looking for someone to for a lengthy play off run he's your man.

I don't see why anybody would take Doug Weight over Mathieu Schneider or Mike Modano. Personally I would take Schneider because of his pure ablility to score and be solid defensively as well, he has his fair share of Stanley Cup rings so he could also provide leadership to all the young kids. He is just the complete package and can be a great asset to any team.

I would probably go with Doug Weight. He is by far the best set up man on the list. He's middle of the pack in age and he is a proven rental player (although I don't really agree with the rental concept) I would also say that he is a great leader but so are each of these guys on the list.

I think of a team like Vancouver that has some wingers who can put the puck in the net but they don't have any secondary set up men (the Sedin's are primary but you don't want to break them up) Guys like Naslund, Pyatt, Burrows, Isbister could really benefit. I would guess that scoring on that team could go up 10+%. That would be enough to push them back well into the winning column. And at 3.5 million a year the Canucks could make room. The question is, will the Ducks deal him? With Niedermeyer back and Selanne coming back how is their cap room?

I will have to go with Mike Modano. He is everything you want in a player. He is leader and a winner. And he'll put the puck in the net a lot.
Guest4504 Posted - 02/04/2008 : 15:50:17
I'd would take Shnieder because he is great on the powerpplay and great leadership from him.

Doug Weight's value is the highest, but obviously the Ducks and Brian Burke can do that to you. Pure indivudalistic raw talent I got to give to Mike Modano who just took over recently Phil Housley (clap clap) as the highest scoring American. I think the key words for me are ''down the stretch''

Mike Modano has been to the post season so many times and I feel he is the most respected, most talented and most experienced of the bunch, save maybe Chris Chelios in experience.

I would have to go with Madano if i needed offence (Vancouver) if i was looking for D it would have to be Schneider
shinnyafterschool Posted - 02/04/2008 : 13:12:24
Easily Schneider, while all would provide leadership and depth, Mathieu would be the most stable, least streaky, and contribute the most.
