Both are two, great young players, but who is better?

Ellis or Mason?

FIrst off, I am very interested to see is Semin could be a bit more specific as to saying "all around good player." If you look at both their numbers as well as they way they play the game, I really don't understand what makes Getlaf the better player?? He is not as good defensively as Richards is. I can say that confidently.

Also, there have been a few people talking about giving some credit to Perry for Getlaf. I don't understand that. I think it's the other way around.

Has anyone else noticed that since Selanne has returned, the lines have been Kunitz-Getzlaf-Selanne, and Perry-Weight-Bertuzzi??

It's hard to tell because they play a weird system in Anaheim where two forwards always stay together and they roll different forwards with the solid two. Perry and Getzlaf have not been playing together since Selanne's return.

This discussion can easily go back into the Bobby Clarke/ Mike Richards from about a month ago. richards plays a gritty, power forward type game. I have yet to see much of that from Getzlaf.

I think Getzlaf is better in the playoffs though, last year him and Perry both stood out to me as possibly the two best Ducks forwards.

Ellis or Mason?

Usually I'm as decisive as they come, but between these two . . . I just can't, so I voted that I can't decide!

Only time will tell.

Getzlaf may have more talent but Richard is a little bit grittier. Maybe put that into consideration when voting. My vote stays the same with Getzlaf. Read my previous post to know.

Humorous? Nice one there seminrules. At least he can give a pretty mean post game interview. I always like guys who can talk as themselves and not as what they are told to say by their organization.

That is one of the things I like about Getzlaf
that he can be different
he has fun during interviews
and he isnt always serious
but when it's time to be serious
he is very serious.

Seriously though I say Getzlaf, though it is very close. It is hard to tell how much success should be credited to Perry though..

Habs get number 25 this year

This is really tough.

Offensively, the are pretty much the same statistically and both play on lines with decent talent. I don't think you could give a real edge to either one.

Defensively, I think that Getlaf plays responsibly on the other side of the puck, but I personally think that Richards is better. Richards plays a lot on the PP and is depended on to shut guys down as well as score.

I also think that Richards is depended on more as a leader for Philly that Getzlaf is in Anaheim.

I would say Richards, but both are incredibly skills young players. Hockey Canada is in good hands with these kinds of players in the system.

It just has to be Getzlaf although both of them have the potential to be top 10 in a couple years.

semin-rules, it's nice to have you back on the forums.

Hard question, very hard. Both are GREAT two way players. Both can score. Both can pass. Both can do everything. And also both of them can play the point on the PP. Very hard decision. But I have to give it to Getzlaf because I think he will improve a lot more.

Sure Getzlaf has the size and strength, but does he have the skill? Meanwhile, Richards is leading his talented team and I believe he is a couple points ahead of Getzlaf in the scoring race. Only time will tell though.

Ellis or Mason?
