If you look at the Oilers from 79-88 (or the Coyotes these days) - they get rid of their French players or never have any to begin with.

This isnt about a slur against anyone. Just a factual thing. Look it up on HockeyDB.

Krush was hardly French. He may have been born in Quebec, but he was about as French as Don Cherry.

I don't think it was necessarily a plot to keep them out, but this was also back in the day when Montreal scooped up most of the big-name French guys for themselves.

I'm not saying that's the only reason - it may have been a chemistry thing. I have a buddy on an NHL team, and he says the French guys stick with each other, and don't socialize with the rest of the team (Russians, Finns, Anglo-Canadians, Czechs and Swedes, all of which do socialize together). They don't dislike each other, they just don't have much to do with each other outside the rink.

Sather built the Oilers as a close-knit, almost brotherhood-type group. It's hard to argue with the philosophy.

You miss 100% of the shots you don't take. - Gretz

I'm sure that both teams dumped a lot more English players thank French. Maybe they don't like English people either? Wow this conspiracy gets bigger by the minute!!!

LOL, hey chooch.
To be honest I never really noticed. The only connection I see between Edmonton and Phoenix is Gretzky so I'm going to assume that you are saying Gretzky has a dislike for French Canadians. I suppose it's possible though i have no idea if it's true. It's funny though that there is the ridiculous debacle about Shane Doan right now being the captain of team Canada after being accused of a French Canadian slur. He plays for Phoenix and Gretzky. Maybe you're on to something...

Who is this chooch fellow? Seems very intelligent.

Coyotes traded about 8 french players in the past 2 years, (and dumped Daniel Briere too).
