According to sources his vision has deteriorated to the point that its not at the NHL minimum level anymore, and although he is not ready to retire yet, will miss the rest of the season and act as an "unofficial assistant coach" for the team.
Its a shame for him that its come to this, before the injury he was one of the best defensive specialists in the game, a faceoff master, and a very effective physical player. He was never the same afterwards, and its really only been a matter of time for it to come to this. He will be missed. |

Posted - 02/14/2013 : 22:16:36 A real shame indeed. Hate to see any player forced to retire, not on their own terms. Amazingly, his faceoff percentage this season is at an impressive 65% win clip! From what AV said though, it came down to the fact that he was putting himself in danger from devastating hits everytime he was on the ice!
You definitely could tell he was not the same player since his return from the eye injury. I'm sure he's set for life and will be taken care of, but it's a shame he has to walk away when he's not really ready. |
