Glad my team was active during the deadline. Big need for defensively responsible middle 6 player in Ottawa, especially with recent injuries to Ryan, Stone and Hoffman, not to mention MacArthur who has been shutdown for the year, possibly career ending. That's 4 legit top 4 forwards on the IR.
Burrows a left handed RW being a playoff warrior with previous offensive ability, not at the level he once was, but will bring playoff experience in Vancouvers previous cup final, which is experience previously lacking in Ottawa, with also having decent defensive and possession abilities needed badly in the middle 6.
Stalberg's LW pickup is just like Burrows, but younger and faster with less offensive skills or nastiness to his game, just a solid PK bottom 6 player with good possession stats. Like Burrows this guy has played late in the post season on a few occasions, being a part of Chicago's cup win a few years ago
Wingels RW was a pickup from a few weeks ago who fits a need in Ottawa's depth on RW, when Stone and Ryan left injured a few weeks ago. He had decent stats a few years ago and was a part of San Jose cup run last year. All it cost Ottawa was a couple of older AHL player not likely to crack the NHL as regulars.
All in all the first year GM in Ottawa did well, giving up Dahlen a Swedish 2 tier prospect (Swedish version of the AHL) who is undersized, underweight and noted to have poor skating skills, unsigned on his entry level contract. Lazar, a failed 1st round pick who has dropped in every statistical category in his 3 year career, especially poor points with 1 on the year and poor possession stats .40ish corsi. A poor AHL defender Kostka in a swap for another poor defender. They gave up a 3rd rounder for Stalberg, but picked up a 2nd rounder in the Lazar trade.
I'd call this good job and mission accomplished for the first year GM. |
