Last night Joe Thornton got two assists which gave him 90 assists. That is back to back 90 assist seasons for Thornton. Thornton has joined an elite company, as the other two players who have had consecutive 90-assist seasons are Wayne Gretzky (12 in a row, 1980-81 through 1991-92) and Mario Lemieux (1987-88 and 1988-89)

Good job Joe!!!!!

What do you guys think?

I think what makes this even more amazing is the fact that that he ddin't set up Cheechoo for a majority of his assists.

Long Live Leafs Nation!!

An excellent accomplishment. Well done Joe. But what happened with him? The first 7 or 8 years of his career was largely unimpressive. We saw flashes of his brilliance but for the most part he was average. Since his trade from Boston he has blossomed. Was he just unhappy in Boston? Too much pressure? I can't see it being a lack of talent around him.

I say he was under pressure being the 1st overall pick in the 1997 draft they excpect a lot. And in San Jose they were relying on the 2nd overall pick in the 1997 draft Patrick Marleau. So San Jose has the 1st and 2nd overall picks in the 1997 draft. No whonder there doing so good.

Joe Thornton. One of the BEST playmakers in the NHL. He has just reached his prime (in my opinion) and will stay in his prime for 3-4 years to come. He will be one of the top 2 or 3 players on the team Canada roster in 2010. This is just simply amazing for Thornton but on the other hand I believe that this is now expected of him also.

Having to be a goal scorer in Boston may have been his bigest problem at the start of his career, now that he is on a team that does not expect him to score he can put up the assists without ant pressure...

The best way to convince a fool that he is wrong is to let him have his own way...
