Since there are ten teams in the western conference within 7 points of each other (as of Feb 24th 2011 at 7:39am est) I figured we could make a challenge for all users and guest who can most acuratly pick the final Western Conference standings. Right now the prize would be bragging rights but if anyone can think of a cool prize i'm open to suggestions. So the format is simple and as follows:
the person who can most acuratly pick 1rst through 10th in the weastern conference wins. For tie breaking purposes only please include the total number of points each team will have. The deadline for your entry lets make Saturday March 5th to give everyone ample time after the trade deadline to either make adjustments to their picks or make their picks. All entry's are final at 23:59pm eastern time on March 5th 2011. Entry's can be modified and added until this date. All entry's modified or added after March 5th get no bragging rights and will be ignored!
Good luck guys

Awesome contest, will be fun . . . since it's for bragging rights, however, I will have to ponder this mightily and will give in my entry just before the deadline.

Vancouver 112.0 Detroit 107.0 San Jose 104.0 Chicago 99.0 Los Angeles 98.0 Dallas 97.0 Nashville 96.0 Anaheim 95.0 ____________________________________ Phoenix 94.0 Calgary 93.0 Minnesota 92.0 Columbus 89.0 St. Louis 83.0 Colorado 77.0 Edmonton 66.0
WINNER, WINNER, CHICKEN DINNER!!!
Pasty, love the idea. As a suggestion, you might want to include a points per team, total points, or wins as a tie breaker as you will more than likely see more than one person with the teams in the same order.
So what's the deal for the scoring?? 1 point for every team you get right that made the playoffs, 2 more points for any team you picked in the correct spot?? Then a tie breaker of difference between your predicted point and the teams actual points?? |

Beans, I think your picks are backwards...
Patsy, to be clear - picking 1-10 only (Beans has ranked the whole conference), entries submitted by March 5. I like it. |

As per a good suggetion by beans please include the teams total points beside the teams ranking as a tie breaker. and Yeah Nuxxy for the evaluation of who is the winner we will only consider 1 through 10 ..
I added this information to the original post so people who are just coming to the topic do not miss it.

I'll be taking this challenge, but will waiting a few days before making my submission. The West is insane right now, seeds 5 through 10 all have 70 points! That's 6 teams tied, crazy! |

The other thing about the West that is amazing to me is that all 5 team in the Pacific have been in playoff positions. There is a legimiate chance that Dallas, Phoenix, San Jose, Anaheim, and LA all make the playoffs. How sick would that be???
Remember about 6 weeks ago when people were talking about how bad San Jose was and what a fall from grace they had???
They and NJ are the hottest teams over the past 20 games. The question is, who is going to be the hottest teams over the next 20 games???? The final 20 game will separate the real teams from the pretenders. I fully expect to see Minnesota, Calgary, and unfortunately Dallas without Brad Richards fall out of the hunt and see teams like Chicago and Nashville solidify their playoff spots.
It would be great to see the race as tight as it is today in April, but I think the top 5-6 teams will rise to the top but there will be about 5 teams fighting for those has 2-3 spots. |

I see CHI solidifying their spot in 5th thru 8th. I'm currently narrowing down my potential list of Canucks for you...
Its so hard to tell - yet another 5 way tie for 6th thru 10th, and 12th place still has a reasonable shot only 4 points out. I've started wondering what the point cutoff for the playoffs will be in the west - have we ever had a 100 point cutoff? Teams that are currently at the bottom of the playoff picture have 70 points and 21-22 games remaining. 100 seems unlikely, but high 90's for sure this year. |
