Due to popular demand, here is the betting thread. Not gambling but putting a friendly wagers down. Make it your avatar or a post about a player you know your opponent can't stand. Throw a little money down if you wish.
VERY IMPORTANT - Pick Up Hockey nor any members/guest are responsible for ensuring bets are paid. This is not a gambling site and PUH does not condone those who welch on bets.

1) Bet regarding STL making the playoffs. If STL makes the playoffs, Beans loses. If STL misses the playoffs, Beans wins. I believe the terms are $25 and the bet is with Alex116.
2) Bet regarding Chicago. Beans wins if Chicago finishes 4th or higher in the West. Beans loses if Chicago finishes in 5th or worse. Bet is a post (at least 100 words long) singing the virtures of a player of the winners choice. Beans vs Nuxfan
3) Bet regarding the Leafs. Leafs finish 15-11th in the conference - Beans wins.Leafs finish 10th-1st in the conference - slozo wins. The loser will proudly display the logo of the winner's favorite teams as their avatar for the duration of the playoffs. |

AwesomeOne bets that the Canucks will not make the playoffs in the 2010/11 season (will finish 9th or worse in conference). Nuxfan begs to differ.
If AwesomeOne wins, Nuxfan changes avatar to something Flames-y and writes 200 words on how awesome the Flames are.
If Nuxfan Wins, AwesomeOne changes avatar to something Canucks-y and writes 200 words on how awesome the Canucks are. |

Whoever's team finishes higher in their respective conference, wins the bet.
If they finish in the same spot, tiebreaker will be total points (highest team in the overall NHL standings).

Champ says Flames hold on to win it 4 games to 2.
Loser changes avatar.
If series is tied 3-3, then it is a wash.
The arena wall in chicago should be credited with a goal. |

Bet with Pasty - Pasty, can you remember what the terms were for our bet on Iginla? I know it's 35 goals or less I win, 36 or more you win - but I can't remember what the prize was we are playing for.
I think it was complicated by my bet with Beans in terms of avatar trading, so from my memory:
If I win, you display a Leafs avatar for the playoffs.
If I lose while at the same time winning my bet with Beans, I display the dreaded Montreal Canadiens logo on my avatar.
If I lose while at the same time losing my bet to Beans, after I wear Edmonton colours for the playoffs, I would then have to have the Canadiens logo from the end of the playoffs until the beginning of next season.
Hopefully I have that correct?

Is presently ahead in both of his bets however; seeing how the pens are playing with a glorified AHL lineup the habs may pass us by and Ovechkin's recent play I could be sitting on the outside looking in. Lets hope Toews & Iginla keep up their hot streaks for the remainder of the season.

Blast! Iggy got two goals last night, has 32 now, 4 shy of me losing to Pasty . . . he's got to keep it to 3 goals or less in the last ten games.
Will go down to the wire. But man, what a player he is . . . the lone superstar on the Flames, and he just keeps on trucking. Reminds me a lot of Sundin when he was in his waning years on the Leafs - he's just got an amazing "compete" level, and an amazing skill level for his age, especially these days with the speed and youth in the game.
I'll tell you, I didn't think he would do as well as he already has.

Crazy isn't it Slozo, and to think, this guy never did win an MVP, though he likely should have taken in over Theodore in '02. Remember hearing of some suspicious voting back then!
Either way, i think Pasty's gonna win your bet at this point. Look on the bright side, if he's "already done better than you thought, you'd have prob taken that bet even at 30 goals!
If nothing else, he's certainly "bucking the trend" of that chart of goal scorers over the age of 30 you showed us last year (think it was you?). |

Alex, as I am a gentleman, I will give you an opportunity to win back your $25. You should have known better than to bet on STL but I will give you the benefit of the doubt. Maybe you were just having a bad day.
Here it is. Vancouver is going into the playoffs as the #1 seed in the West and most likely #1 overall. On paper, there are very few weakness and they have proven this all year.
So the bet is simple.
Beans wins another $25 if Vancouver does not make it past the 2nd round of the playoffs.
Alex wins his $25 back if Vancouver makes it to the 3rd round or deeper.
Just to sweeten the bet, if Vancouver wins the Cup, I will pay you an additional $25.
I told you I was a gentleman.

I had a feeling this was going to be the bet. I'm not in love with it, but i will take it. I don't usually bet on "my" team, but i will take you up on that, Manny Malhotra or not!
There's a ton of good teams in the west, but this team is due to make it to at least the semi's! It's a deal!
As for St Loius, i'd feel a lot better about losing had they not been decimated by injuries. I know, it's an excuse, but in reality, they were right in the thick of things when their bad luck began. Keep in mind, it's not as though i was picking them to be top 3 or anything like that! |

Beans, i'm okay with it. Statistically, 8 teams make the playoffs in the west, only 2 make the 3 round. Therefore, Vancouver is only 25% likely to make the third round, not great odds. However, they are likely to be the favorite and have home ice throughout which balances it out somewhat. I'm more than willing to accept this bet as it was proposed, no counter offer necessary.
Besides, i'd have put $50 on our original bet anyway!  |

My STL bet was in the bag at Christmas. Never in doubt.
The stupid Leafs will just not roll over and die already.
Chicago is 5 points back of 4th in the West with 3 games in hand.
Super tight bets coming down to the wire. If I find a way to win one of the two bets outstanding I will be pleased. |

Well, it's not a big deal Pasty - you will either see me wear the Canadiens logo for the playoffs or the summer . . . probably for the playoffs if things stay where they are with Beans.
But the bet with Beans was first - we set that one right at the start of the season, a long way back. And I explained the bet precedence thing with you in another bet thread where I went through my two bets with you and Beans . . . quite sure of that.
It'll all be a moot point anyways - Beans will be wearing the traditional BLUE AND WHITE this coming playoffs for the second year in a row.

Prepare to soon Add SensFan to the loyal Blue & White Logo's. Barring a insane final 6 games by Ovechkin, which is possible considering 3 of those games are against Florida & Carolina, he will fail to catch Perry for the final spot in the top 5 scorers.

Ok Slozo it's time for my bet proposition for the year. Here we go
1- The Leafs will Not make the playoffs.
2- The Oilers will finish 25th or higher
3- Phil Kessel will have less than 38 goals
4- Taylor Hall will have more than 34 goals
5- No Leaf player will have more than 65 pts
The bet is if 3 or more of my predictions come true, you must proudly display an Oilers avatar from the end of the 11/12 regular season until the start of the 12/13 season. If less than 3 of my predictions come true than I put up the Leafs avatar for the same duration.

Wow, you are nuts, dude. Seriously! I mean that in the most kind hearted way, but . . . I don't know how I can lose this bet! 
1 - Leafers will make the playoffs I think.
2- Oilers finishing 25th or higher . . . that is a tough one, probably about 50/50 I think, as it depends so much on other teams. But a good chance for this to happen, no doubt.
3- Phil can't score 38 goals, eh? I like this one, as the odds would be against it happening, but I have a real good feeling about Kessel this year.
4-Taylor Hall scores 35+ goals? Ha ha, I will take that bet to the bank. Very unlikely to happen, in my opinion. Sophomore year, after scoring 22 goals in 65 games . . . unh unh. Sorry.
5-No Leafer with more than 65 points?!? So that means a Leafer has to get 66 points or more, eh? I think with an improved offence, we'll actually have a couple, myself . . .
So, 3 out of 5 have to come true. Most of it rests on the Leafs having a good year or not basically . . . Hell, Kessel alone will win most of the bet for me if he scores 38 or more, as that would put him above 65 pts for sure, and surely the Leafs would be in the playoffs then perhaps. And I don't mind betting against a sophomore player (albeit a pretty talented one) increasing his goal totals by over 30% . . . and betting against the Oil dramatically improving on last year.
I bet you I win this bet on the Leafs making the playoffs, Kessel getting 38 or a Toronto player getting 66 pts (one of them for sure), and Hall not getting 35 goals.

I like this bet as well
1 - I don't think the Leafs are as good of a team as you think they are and that is the basis of the bet. All the Leaf specific bets are designed around the team not making the playoffs. If they do make the playoffs, there is a good chance I will have lost the other 2 Leaf based bets. If they don't make the playoffs there is a good chance I have won the other 2 Leaf based bets.
2 - Kessel scoring 38 or less it me putting my money where my mouth is. I have said in various threads that I think we have seen everything Kessel has to offer and that he will be a perennial 30-35 goal scorer. Of all the bets, this is the one that I might lose even if the Leafs miss the playoffs.
3 - The Leafs have not had a 65 point player since Sundin left. Again, if Kessel scored more than 38 it is likely he will have more than 65 points and the Leafs will make the playoffs so these are all linked.
4 - Hall scoring 35 is a very reasonable prediction. He gets 1st line minutes and 1st line PP. If Hemsky is healthy (damn, I think that comment just snapped his clavicle) and Hall is healthy, this is very likely. Hall was on pace for 29 as a rookie before he was injured and considering he did not score for the first 8 games of the season he was at a nearly 34 goal pace.
5 - The only think stopping the Oilers from finishing higher than 25th is health. Whitney out for any length of time will hurt them however this team is better than I think they even realize. Their forward group has more potential than just about any other team in the NHL today and those folks out East don't see enough of them to agree.
I am feeling pretty safe in my bet but only time will tell. How much fun would a bet be if it was nearly a sure thing??? I had to make a bet that would be winnable by both people and I think this bet is just that.

I did not say I would love the Sens and change my avatar if the Leafs fail to make the playoffs. I said i would do it if the Sens make the playoffs. There is a remote chance both of us could be losing this bet.
Sorry I must have misread it how about this instead if the Sens finish 10th or higher you have the avatar and prof signature. I still don't like my odds but at least I would have a chance.

I like the 5 point Leafs bet. I don't know if I'd have taken it, but it's still a fun, reasonable bet.
Who did I bet about Iginla having less than 40 goals? I dont remember who that was with or of it was even 40 goals, and to be honest I'm too lazy to look up the thread. But I'm still game for that bet!

OK Sensfan I will take the bet
If the Leafs make the playoffs, you will change your avatar to a leafs one and post a signature that says I LOVE THE TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS.
If the Sens finish 10th or higher I will change my avatar to a Sens one and post a signature that says I LOVE THE OTTAWA SENATORS.
The avatar and signature must remain from the start of the playoffs until the cup is raised.
I noticed you have another bet with Mario66 that involves a possible change to Leaf Avatar - should you lose that bet too the time that you have each avatar should not overlap. You must honor each bet individually.
Gonna be long season for both of us I think! |
