A bit more specific here please Blubberboy. If your'e talking about next season or when Crosby is retireI have no idea. I know im being a bit picky but if its in 08-09 rather than 07-08 that makes a big difference(those seasons are just examples). |

I think if Pittsburgh can stay together and find a d-man or two, they are going to be great. but really, think about 3 years ago. Who were the best teams?? Here were the top 10 teams from 2002-2003 1-Ottawa 2-Dallas 3-Detroit 4-New Jersey 5-Philadelphia 6-Vancouver 7-Colorado 8-St. Louis 9-Toronto 10-Anahiem
My point is a lot can happen in 3 years. Seriously, Toronto and St. Louis???

I think you have to say Pittsburgh. They are the team to watch moving forward. A lot of young talent on that team. I don't expect them to finish in the top 20 this year though, so they'll pick up another good draft pick too. Like Beans said, if they can keep the core together and pick up a d-man or two they will be a serious contender. |

The thing about Pittsburgh is that once all those great young players (Crosby, Malkin, Staal, Whitney, Fleury) reach 25 years of age, they're UFA's... if they're still on the team. When their rookie contracts expire, don't you think they'll all be offered top dollars? Pittsburgh will certainly not be able to keep all of those players past their rookie contracts because they all have franchise money potential somewhere else. I can't wait to see where they all end up in 5 years.
Guys, don't forget San Jose. With their draft class of 2003 (Bernier, Michalek, Carle and now Pavelski), they're going to make one hell of a team. They also have bright young D-men like Ehrhoff and Vlasic, two solid and still young goalies (one of which they could trade and get a big return), a young franchise player in Thornton (he's only 27!) and a solid leader in Marleau (also 27). DO NOT count them out.
Another team that is scary now that will be for many years to come is Nashville. |
