I'd have to vote Thomas for this one. Seriously, how do you go from a Vezina-trophy winner to losing your starting job within a calendar year? Just crazy. Jokinen also had a complete meltdown, but its more of a continuing trend rather than a sharp one-season decline.
Lecavalier will probably take some heat in this thread, but his final numbers weren't 'that' terrible.
In my opinion Malkin shouldn't be part of this list. He had some injury problems, and even still is almost a PPG player. Hardly a disaster season like some other players have had. |

| I have to give Rask some credit for really stepping up, but I regretted picking Thomas as my goalie in my office pool within the first 2 months of the season. |

| I agree I think Rask took the job away rather than Thomas losing the job. Thomas's numbers weren't that bad. |

Absolutely agree that Thomas is the biggest disappoint for a single player. If you want to know how a players can go from the Vezina to a chump, just ask Jose Theodore or Jim "The Net Detective" Carey.
I agree that all things considered, Lecavalier and Malkin under acheived but there is rationale behind it. St. Louis was no longer Lecavalier's wing man and he suffered for it(to Stamkos's gain). Malkin's injuries caused issue. However, if he is healthy now, that might be the possum that Pittsburgh will be happy about. |

my vote went to Price. After a very dissapointing 08/09, this was supposed to be a bounceback season, and he took a large step backwards IMO, where he has now lost his starting job. But any one of the other players mentioned could be candidates. There were many dissapointments this year

Surprised Luongo was not on the list... from that list it was Jay Bowmeester but Luongo was biggest disappointment for me... |

I have to go off the list and say the Oilers...
I would think any reasonable Oil fan, knew that they were not going to be vying for a division title, but the season that was....yikes!
To be last, 12 points behind the Leafs!
Never saw that coming.

Hm, I'm not sure if you're joking or not... ROBERTO Luongo? Or is there some other Luongo that I'm not aware of that had a crap season?
If "dissapointing" is a 40-win season, GAA of 2.57 and SV% of .913, then I'd say a lot of goalies had a pretty dissapointing season. |

Had to go with Thomas and Price as the runner up. I wonder how these goaltenders would play if they switched teams? Anyway, I really have to wonder what went so terribly wrong for Thomas this year, was it personal, was in the dressing room, coaching? With Price I'm thinking the pressure cooker of Montreal finally got to him...except that happened last year too. A move would do him good IMO.
When Hell freezes over, I'll play hockey there too. |

I voted Jokinen. He always used to be a surefire pick for lots of points in my hockey pool, but glad I didn't pick him this year.
Maybe Tim Thomas wasn't as good since he finally made it? He played in some weird leagues, kept battling and finally made it to the NHL... |

Tough one for me between Thomas and Jbo. For me it'd have been Thomas, but i actually voted Jbo as i figure the Calgary Flames are massively disappointed. Personally, i wasn't all that surprised with his play as i never thought of him as the big offensive stud that so many thought he'd be. I've always found him to be a good all around dman with some offensive flair but i found that after Calgary signed him, many people thought his offensive upside was far beyond anything i ever imagined him having.
As for Luongo, it just goes to show the reputation he's got and just how high expectations are for him! If anyone voted for him, it'd prob be himself! He did in fact have a below avg year (compared to what he's done with the Canucks in the past) but with that many wins, he'd be tough to throw into the mix as most disappointing! |

I voted JayBo, but it's a tough call.
I would add a couple of other Flames to the list - Daymond Langkow for starters, then Olli Jokinen, and then I'd even mention Iginla as a slight disappointment. Heck, the entire team disappointed obviously.
Getzlaf, a guy on another team that was expected to make the playoffs, is another I would add to your list. Yeh, he had 50 assists, but like Iginla, much more is expected from a player of that calibre.

Nice one Slozo, kinda forgot about Getzlaf and while others might have been bigger disappointments, he's def in the mix. He was predicted by many to break the 100 point mark for the first time in his career! I bought into that theory and had him as my first pick in my draft (think it was pick #6 or 7?) and he failed to live up to the hype. Wonder if coming off surgery in the summer was anything to do with it? |

| Datsyuk might not have had the best year offensively, but he had another standout defensive year. Funny to hear names being thrown around for the Selke and he hasn't been mentioned by a lot of people. I think he'll get a nomination and might win it yet again! His "takeaway" numbers are sick and his takeaway/giveaway ratio is crazy as well! Yeah, his offense slid a bit, but the Selke doesn't focus on offense as much. Of course, when you have a stud two way guy like Datsyuk put up crazy numbers on offense like he did last year, it just makes him a lock! He might actually have some competition this year for the award! |

| I'd add Martin Havlat to that list. He was expected to come in & pick up where Marian Gaborik left off. While Gaborik was potting 42 goals & 86 points on broadway, Havlat scored 18 goals & 54 points in the Wilds new supposedly more up-temp offensive system. |

Without a doubt the biggest disappointment of the season was Jay Boumester playing in Florida this guy lead the league in ice time and was a point producer and prior to this year one of the best 6 defenseman in the nhl. This season he was a dud. Also i dont know how some of you didnt see the oilers being one of the worse teams in the league and it sure didn't help when they lost there 3 best players for 80% of the season but a bigger disappointment has to be your rival the flames. At the beggining of the year they were clearly a favorite to come out of the west and they simply imploded.
And all I can say about Tim Thomas is YES. I cant stand this guy him and Huet are the most overrated goalies in the league and this year he showed his true colors as the bum he is.
Being a Leaf hater while living in the Toronto area all i can say to all you Bruins fans is that you better start sending gifts to the leafs GM's becausing they have been handing you guys gems for the last decade. First they give you Brad Boyes for nothing, then Tuuka Rask who is your future and now your goin to get the second overall pick LMAO good for bruins fans and thank you leaf nation for continuing to blow.

I'm still glad the trade went down though, Sather managed to get rid of the mistake that was the Ales Kotalik contract, and also picked up a solid energy-type player in Brandon Prust, who i'm sure they'll do their best to resign. |

Nope he has said nothing about it at all to my knowledge. Sorry if my last post confused I was simply stating my personal opinion. I would be shocked if he didn't go to Russia though

I'm gonna say Beans' biggest disappointment would have to be losing that bet to Slozo!
I just saw the Leafs logo for the first time and had to do a double take to see who the poster was!
Well, if nothing else, it means the countdowns are on!
1. Counting down the minutes to the first playoff game!
2. Beans counting down the days till the cup is awarded!

How many games did Rask play after taking over from Thomas? Was it enough to qualify as a candidate for the Calder? His save% and GAA would make him a serious contender.
