I haven't heard this from any source other than this poll so I'm reluctant to give it much credibility yet. Why would they get rid of them? There surely must be room on the team for both with plenty of room to spare. Where did you hear this Uteman?

Iginla - $7 million annually - locked up til 12/13
Kiprusoff - $7 million, $7 million and $5 million over the next 3 years.

The problem with the Flames wasn't either of them (although Iginla was well off his pace). Kipper played an incredible season and is back to his old form. Iggy needs a new system; imagine him in an openly offensive team. Gives me goosebumps.

I think the Flames will keep Dutter this coming season (last chance, by the way) but I bet ownership wants them to focus on goals. Look for them to shuffle the deck, but Kipper and Iggy stay at the core for this season.

Kipper will be staying.

I honestly believe that Iginla's future with Calgary is tied to Butter's future with Calgary. If Butter stays it really wouldn't surprise me at all to see Iginla ask to be traded. People think I'm crazy for it but those two do not see eye to eye and it shows. If he leaves I would really like to see him go to Pittsburgh on Crosby's wing. Sensational.

As an aside, the guy who really needs to leave the Flames organization is Regehr.

Why does Regehr need to leave Calgary?

Funny you should say that willus. I waffle daily on Regher. I love his size and grit. Also love that he is a solid, stay at home d-man...but he's pretty slow and often gets beat badly by the faster forwards.

I can't quite put my finger on it so I think that's why I'm back and forth on him staying. Can you elaborate on your thoughts Willus?

Regehr - Has a NMC so it's unlikely he will be moved unless he agrees to be.

Much has been made of the locker room issues and the "core" of the team this season. "This core can't win", "The core are coach killers" etc..
It is no secret that Regehr did not care for Keenan and his lack of any kind of defensive system last season. But he went further than that post season calling out the forwards on the team in the media. To the effect that they did not support the defence by coming back enough. No other teammates criticized any other teammates to the media. It's one thing to do that within the locker room, it's quite another to do so to the media.
Now who is it he was calling out? It's well known Iginla's defensive game is not his strong suit. It's safe to assume he was one of them.
There are two strong leaders on this team. Iginla and Regehr. Regehr complains about a lack of defensively responsible forwards, Iginla favours an offensive style(which is why he and Butter don't see eye to eye). There is a distinct split in that dressing room.

Much hubub about Phaneuf being a locker room disturbance. Hence the trade.
Much hubub about Phaneuf and Regehr pairing not working well together and not getting along.
Read these quotes in this article. My bet is it was Regehr who went to Dutter. Everyone else seemed to be able to deal with Phaneuf's strong, abrasive personality.

So after the trade nothing really changed in the way the team played. The effort was about the same. Inconsistent. Evidently Phaneuf was not the problem. Especially when you consider the effect he has had on Toronto.

It seems to me that Regehr is the guy making issues in the locker room.

As for Regehr's performance, well I believe he has been over rated for quite sometime and this season in particular he was horrible. His one strength was his defensive play which is where I feel he has always been over rated and he was continually getting beat in all situations this season. With the puck he is quite possibly the worst player in the league, and I'm not kidding. When he gets the puck it will be thrown up the boards to the opposition or thrown up the middle directly onto the stick of the opposition. He couldn't make an offensive play to save his life.

By the way, most Flames fans will tell you after the trade Regehr's play picked up some. That should tell you what kind of guy he is.

Sorry, but you asked.

I have never been very impressed with Regher when I've seen him play, and know exactly what you are saying about getting beat by the faster players and throwing the puck up the middle.

I realise that this 'rumour' might be one that is made up by Utemin, but it could also be dead on . . . and I would guess it might be Iggy who would move. Only for the reasons as explained - he doesn't get alng with the coach, wants an offensive styled team, and it shows in his play. And Iggy ain't getting any younger, and I am sure he wants a solid crack at the cup with a real contender while still near the top of his game (although on the downward slide).

Iginla to Toronto for Kaberle, Stalberg and Myers.

Anyone? . . . anyone?

I suppose that for the cranial stunted, the line "anyone? . . . anyone?" borrowed from Ferris Bueller's Day Off wasn't enough of a tip-off that my suggested trade was a casually humorous possibility just thrown out there for kicks. Good to see Guest 2789 jump on it right away as if I had contended Iggy wanted to go anywhere, nevermind Toronto . . . when I had just pointed out he might want to go to a contender for the cup and then immediately suggested Toronto.

I guess the humour doesn't translate well on the internet, sigh. There goes that job I was hoping to get writing for SNL.

(please note: the SNL thing is a joke - I have never been a professional comedy writer, nor have I handed in a resume or applied for a job at NBC studios for said position)

Now that's funny!!

Iginla and Kipper both stay as long as the Sutter sisters are there. Secondly, If (and huge if) either of them go, it will be a sign that the Brass in Calgary don't think they can win with the team they have. The deal for either would be heavily prospect and pick driven and would be used a jumpstart to a re-build.

That being said, neither goes anywhere for some time. If Calgary still has a horrible offense and it not in a playoff spot next season, there will be wholesale changes. GM, Coach, and various players.

Interesting perspective on Regher as well. Pretty hard to prove, but as difficult to deny there is at least something valid behind it. It's something to watch for the early part of next year.
