Patrice Cormier has been charged for his hit on Mikael Tam earlier this season. In my opinion the courts will not be able to convict him of anything, only because it happened in a professional hockey game. It is stupid to try and get anything out of this because hockey is such a passionate, fast-paced game, and although unfortunate these types of injuries do happen.
I don't believe Cormier had pre-meditatedly tried to hurt Tam, and I don't think he had meant to hurt Tam at all (well severely, at least). I don't see a mens rea, and the courts should have left his alone. It just seems really stupid they are even trying this.
Anyways, that's enough of my ramblings. Your thoughts?
