Sheldon Souray is from Elk Point AB which is an Hour or so from my parents place.
Alex Auld was born in the same hospital as my wife in Cold Lake AB. He only stayed in Cold Lake for like 3-6 months though.
I live in Edmonton so I have something in common with these guys:
Jarome Iginla Dion Phaneuf Jason Chimera Andrew Ference Daymond Langkow Scott Nichol Jay Bouwmeester Gilbert Brule Mike Comrie Jamie Lundmark Scott Niedermayer Fernando Pisani Brad Staubitz Jason Strudwick
I was born in Oshawa Ontario. This guy was born there too:
Shawn Thornton
Funny thing that I found only one NHLer from Oshawa. Thought there'd be more from the home of the Generals.
The arena wall in chicago should be credited with a goal.

I too live in Edmonton, so there are many current and former players from here.
However, I grew up in Redwater, Alberta. About 45 minutes north east of Edmonton. Home of Todd Fedoruk of the Tampa Bay Lightning(formerly or Phoenix, Dallas, Minnesota, Philly, and Anaheim). He was 2 years younger than me but as it was a small town (2000 people) everyone knew everyone. Todd and I used to be pretty good friends until he left to go to play in Kelowa for the Rockets.
If you don't know who he is, remember the guy who had his face caved in a few years ago by Derek Boogaard?? That was Todd Fedoruk.

Aurora, Ontario, Canada There was a lot of great people form here considering our town size.
Shared my home with (Most of them are retired) (Hockey Players) Frank Klees Karl Stewart Kris King Mike Hough Tie Domi Norm Dennis Shayne Stevenson Ed Belfour (Lives here now)
I live in Burnaby, home of the immortal Joe Sakic. There is even a street named after him here (a small street). Other notables from Burnaby - Karl Alzner, Darren McCarty, Byron Ritchie, Cliff Ronning (he still has a house here I think), Greg Zanon
I was born and raised in Burlington ON however, and was surprised to see that very few NHL players past and present are from Burlington - its just outside TO and a hockey hotbed. Adam Creighton and Brad Winchester were the only ones that I initially recognized

Interestingly enough, Joe Sakic is not only from the same hometown, but of the same heritage as myself.
- Gary Roberts - Joe Nieuwendyk - Adam Foote - James Neal - Keith Primeau - Wayne Primeau - Paul Ranger - Jaime Allison
All called Whitby home once...Johnny's North End Burgers, best place in town, just about every Maple Leaf went there back when Roberts was a Bud. The cups been in that place sooo many times! During the lockout, I had a hockey game at Iroquois Park Arena and Joe Thornton and Adam Foote were playing a game of one on one!
Gary Roberts' parents actually lived on my street growing up, he would be there in the summer and would make for some pretty clingy neighbours lol...Gotta go back there sometime lol
if we consider the suburbs of my hometown, i have a lot of players and i wouldn't even be able to list all of them. I'm born in Montreal. so try to list all player from Montreal and surrounds down here.... however, i live 5 min away from Maurice Richard's house, he actually coached me for a one day tournament. We have a cottage and Jacques Lemaire used to have a cottage on the same lake as we do so i saw him a couple time
Although he's not from my hometown, Blair Betts (listed as an Edmonton native) we are friends with some of his relatives... I can't remember the relation, though, something like nephew or cousin.
Cam Barker Dustin Boyd Nigel Dawes Darren Helm Duncan Keith Colton Orr Patrick Sharp Jonathan Toews Travis Zajac
Grew up in the same neighbourhood as Toews and Barker. Barker and I are actually the same age, but he went to school across the street from me.
Helm is actually from the St. Andrews/Selkirk area, but played hockey in Winnipeg in his teen years.

My cousin played minor hockey with both Brad Richards & Thatcher Bell (a Vancouver Canuck draft pick who had his career derailed by back injuries). We grew up in the same yard, and he had a really nice outdoor rink behind our houses (boards, a string of lights above the ice, lines, etc). Both Brad & Thatcher would play on our rink occasionally, which looking back was pretty cool.

Just rereading this stuff, looking for follow lower mainlanders. Seems you forgot about Brendan Morrison! He has his own arena/sports center!
A friend of mine pointed out recently that a vast majority of big name musicians were from smaller cities. Likely because there are less things to do or be distracted by, leaving more time for one to strum his guitar. But this theory it seems is also relevant for professional athletes.
I am from Vancouver, and although I haven't actually done any research, the only players I know of from the City are Evander Kane, Milan Lucic, Chuck Kobasew and Paul Kariya. Seems like all the aforementioned cities had maybe about the same amount, but consider the population difference. Per capita, Vancouver would be way down. I have also been told that Saskatchewan pumps out the most pro athletes per capita than any other Province or even State.
Sort of a cool theory, but maybe there isn't actually anything to it.
But anyways, Milan Lucic and Evander Kane carry my home town pride! It's cool to see people my age in pro sports, especially when I've got a couple friends who played with both of them.
