I want to know what people think the leafs must do in order to become a contender

1st of all the Leafs will not be contenders for many yrs to come for a few reasons. They have no depth at any postion and they have no help on the way, look at the marlies they suck. With over 20mil tied up on a WEAK blue line JFJ has pretyy well tied his hands to to anything. The only way they will get better would be to sign and trade Sundin and Tucker for GOOD prospects and hope they develop quickly. It really won't matter considering it's 67 Forever BABY!!

1) Fire Ferguson
2) Hire a decent GM
3) Use Sundin & Tucker to get as many draft picks as you can
4) Gut the team and start over with draft picks and free agents
5) Focus on speed and skill
6) Realize that you will have a bad team for the next 2-4 years.
7) Pray!

i completely agree beans but the only thing i would add is to throw in O'neil with Sundin and Tucker

You can't build a winning team if all you do is fill your team up with have beans, and defensive players. They needed to compliment Sundin with a playmaker, and add a couple of goal scorers on the second line.

After all tomorrow is another day...
