Well Leigh and blade, our two forum Flames fans, good news! Calgary has won the battle of Alberta in a 3-1 defeat of the Edmonton Oilers!

So Leigh, although the Flames lost to the Sharks, you can still brag to our Oilers fans here that Edmonton lost to their biggest rivals

Hey Lyall and Oil C, oh baby that was a sweet one! I only saw the first period and the Flames were badly out played. And I see the Oli got 9 more shots than the Flames in the whole game. How was the play of the rest of the game? besides the score of course.

Kipper plays good = Flames win Kipper sucks ass = Flames lose Kipper sits for a game = Hell has frozen over, and Flames lose
Anyone else think Kipper plays too much? I mean, sure physical conditioning may not be a factor, but you goalies need a breather every once in a while, don't you?

So does Luongo. I get the feeling that in the tight North West this may be the theme for the year. So even if one of these teams for a run in the playoffs, they may not have the goaltending steam to go far. |

It shows how weak the the NW is in team depth. The whole success of their team depends on one player, their goalie. Their players can't win them games and it's all on whether or not the goalie has a good game that decides the outcome. Also, they don't even have a decent backup to rely on to rest their starters...
Guess which team has none of those problems? |

good point babs but i think Edmonton has a good enough back-up in Markkanen if he actually got some playing time. |

Babs, that is such an IHC comment; said just to get a rise out of us NW guys. And I know you also said all that so that you could point out your team's strength. I'll let it slide. I would hardly call the NW "weak in team depth". Perhaps a bit in Goal only, but the depth is increasing with each win they pull off against both East and West leaders. I'll point out that both Calgary and Vancouver have quickly been closing the gap on your wonder team. And Calgary has been doing it without their super star. So depth isn't really an issue.
but we're getting off topic for this thread. You should move this to the NW discussion forum. |

That's nonsense. I agree with you in regard to the fact that NW teams have to rely on the goalie to win a game. And yes it is an issue of team depth, but not a lack of, just the opposite. I think becuse the teams can score from every line. If your playing a team that can score you have to rely on your goalie. Heck even Calgary has some firepower. Goalies win & lose hockey games for teams. All teams, not just the terrible NW division. Look at Ottawa at the beggining of the season, their poor goaltending was makeing them lose games. Are you gunna say that they have no depth? |

Boushka how many San Jose goalies went to the all star game? that's right NONE! Both Calgary and vancouver represented and even you pacific rivals had a man in. but I guess your two princesses were too ugly to get the call. |

They weren't there cause they're so heavily underrated. Nabokov's record isn't so stellar so I can understand him, but Toskala was as deserving if not more deserving than any of the goalies that were there. They wouldn't send more than 3 guys per team anyways, because one player from every team has to go, and guess which team had the most representatives... yeah.
But it's still hard to include goalies that only play half the games because their team CAN do that, as opposed to goalies who play 95% of games because that's the only way their team has a chance to win (with the exception of Miller/Biron-Buffalo). But this is very off topic... |

He's 5-6-3 with a .888 SV% for the best (or second best, whatever) team in the NHL. I don't call that backup reliability. |

Toskala is underrated. He's 4th in the league for goals against. That's pretty good! (But Kiprusoff is second for shutouts )
Anyway, the thread is called "Battle of Alberta" and we're talking about SJ goalies, lol |

Ok so they have devoted fans? Bad thing?
It's not like those three guys didn't deserve to be there anyways.
