Simple question - the Leafs need to deal Grabovski for the sanity of all Leaf fans. I don't want to see yet another promising rush go to waste with Grabovski forgetting he is not Ovechkin, hanging on to the puck as he looks good streaking down the ice, then loses it for an odd man rush the other way.
What team will take my Gabo, and what are you offering?

Stats for last two years in Toronto, his first two full seasons:

Little known facts: - born in Germany - he loves to get in punch-ups in bars - a big fan of Jaromir Jagr '80s hair - may be a reincarnated version of Sergei Berezin

Grabo looks pretty ordinary honestly, I can't see a team wanting him just for him - he's a small centre with reasonable numbers that declined in his second year. I don't think a lot of teams have expressed interest in picking up this sort of player because they need them. If they do, there are likely many on offer.
Most likely, he could be part of a larger package out of TOR, ie with Kaberle. |

Well nuxfan, as you can see by the comedy in my post, I do realise that Grabo's stock has dropped severely after last year.
But what I am asking is, is there a GM out there who is willing to take a flyer on a player with some flashy skills, very solid skating, who may have just had a bad "sophomore" season? And besides the proverbial bag of pucks, what do you think his value is . . . marginal player? 3rd round pick?

I think I'm the only Leafs fan who think they should hold on to him. Unless they can get something in return in a package deal. He's fast and yes he looks like Berezin but even Berezin had a few seasons of 20-25 goals. Grabovski can score that many if he stays healthy. Plus we all agree that the Leafs are very week at center. With Bozak as a first line center, Grabo a second and Mitchel a third. Yes we have Kadri but he hasn't prove anything yet in the NHL or in the AHL. So while we wait for Kadri to develop into a top 6 in the NHL, we should hold on to Grabovski unless he's being dealth in a package deal that would see a top line center coming to Toronto.
Edit : Wow I check just for fun and Berezin actually had a season of 37 goals in his third year after he scored 25 in his first and 16 in his second. So if we compare the two is it safe to say Grabovski will score 30 this year :P |

Pretty high expectations for a 150th overall draft pick no??
I am not saying that Grabovski is a genius, but I am pretty sure if I told Leaf fans today that in 3 or 4 years thier 5th round draft pick this season will be not only an NHL player, but also a guy contributing 35-50 points a year I think most Loyal Leaf fans would be pretty excited.
That's exactly what Grabovksi is. The comparison to Berezin also is a little interested considering that Berezin was a 10th round pick who ended up producing 4 straight 20+ goal seasons as a Leaf. Put this into perspective. The Leafs had 9 draft picks in 1994. Only 4 played in the NHL at all. The first and 2nd round picks had a total of 8 NHL points together. The other pick that year was Fredrik Modin who never had more than 35 points as a Leaf.
Similarly, in Grabovski's draft year, all of the TO draft picks have a total of 48 NHL games a 6 combined points. Grabovski was drafted by Montreal, and in comparions he has produced more than every player drafted by Montreal before him and only Streit in the 10th round produced more.
What I am saying?? Nothing really, I just thought it was interesting.

So what I'm hearing from you Beans, putting on my "translation helmet", is . . .
"I want Grabo on Edmonton, and I am willing to trade Gagner for him"
Same production basically, same potential from what you say, no?

I never said anything about his potential and no, he does not have the chops for Gagner straight up. Gagner is still improving and has near PPG potential with the right line mate.
However, Cogliano is available??? |

Honestly, I would say that Grabo has the most value to TOR. In a trade, there is no way he brings enough value back to make it worthwhile to trade. TOR needs centres, so let him play and see what happens.
I'm not sure why anyone else would give much of value for him. |

It wouldn't surprise me to see him end up in Nashville with his buddy Sergei Kostitsyn. Now that they've buried the hatchet maybe they could be seen as firing each other up on the same line. Probably not, but i'm just sayin'. |

Great suggestion Mr Boogedy . . . but what am I getting back from Nashville?
I'll take Jordin Tootoo, and I'll throw in a 3rd rounder with Grabo. How's that grab ya?

I think a few teams would have a bit of interest in Mikhail Grabovski, in honesty.
He lacks size and consistency, but he is a speedy Center who can put the puck in the net when he wants to.
If a team can get Grabovski for the right price, I think a few would take him. (3rd Rd Pick -- maybe a 2nd).
I'm unsure of his contract though. If he has a short contract, under $2.3M per year. I could see teams willing to take a chance on him. We've not seen a ton of him Toronto yet, due to injury. Perhaps getting away from the Kostitsyn's is what he really needed. Those two were def. distractions to him, with the feud between them.
I think, personally, in a full season in Toronto he may be able to produce 20 goals again, with 35-40 assists for 60ish points.
He posses the speed and skating ability, he has some hands, he just needs to focus and try.

Irvine - that's all fine and great, but the question stands:
WHAT teams would want him, and what are you offering?

this seems very logical, i bet this might actually go down,, i mean GRabowski is younger than Thornton and Marleau so he easily replace 's both of them in the SJ lineup Heatly lets face it is just a throw in,,, and all Daug wilson's first born does is cry cry cry so he's happy to see him go,, yep this could deffinetly happen (note to tiller, i do know you were being sarcastic)

It was only a matter of time before you aquired him for SJ. I mean, you've mentioned pretty much every other player to be traded there this offseason? |

I only mentioned him because the Sharks need speed in their offense??They only have 3 speedy players McGinn,Marleau and Setoguchi. But if they trade Mitchell they lose his speed..Scotty Nichol is speedy too.But DW even said the team needs speed.

Well Slozo, as an Ottawa Senators fan.. I can't offer you anything for Mr. Grabovski.
The reason being, I'm fine with our Centers in Ottawa. Well, compared to Grabovski anyways.
#1: Jason Spezza (Offensive specialist / Playmaker) #2: Mike Fisher (Solid 2-way Center) #3: Peter Regin (Young offensive Center. Some 2-way play) #4: Chris Kelly (Defensive minded Center. 15 Goals per year or so)
So, i'd not slot Grabo in place of any of these guys. Kelly provides good defensive play, which is what you want from your 4th line Center. Grabo, does not.
Regin is young, with a fair amount of upside. He is already more responsible defensively than Grabo, and could produce more than him in due time.
Fisher is a superb penalty killer and defensive player. He plays hard every night, never gives up. He can also produce offensively for you, so, Grabo isn't even close to replacing him.
Spezza... well, yeah. Do I even have to say anything about why Grabovski would not replace Spezza in Ottawa? lol.
I guess i'd have no interest in Graboski. Perhaps, he could add some depth at Center in Ottawa, for a 4th Rd pick? But, I'm unsure of his salary. Likely in the $2.5M range? So, too expensive for scratched depth.

Mikky Grabbs is taking a bit of a beating here. While Im not his biggest supporter by any stretch, I do think he has value, especially to this leafs team. He was on pace for a career year last season until a broken wrist caused him to miss a big chunk of games.
The Leafs lack serious depth up the middle, I dont want our top 3 centres next season to be Bozak, Kadri and John Mitchell. kadri has 1 NHL game to his credit and John Mitchell pretty much sucks. Grabbo has NHL experience, can easily score 20 goals again and has pretty solid advanced stats like GVT and Corsi. (research those stats if you are unsure what they are)
Basically, his advanced stats tell me that he creates more chances than he gives up and the puck is in the offensive zone much more often than in the defensive zone when he is on the ice. When Grabbs is out there, more often than not the puck is heading the right way.
At 2.9mil per for another 2 years I dont think he is a burden on the cap and has shown the type of intensity and fire Burke likes out of his players. I think he'll be in the lineup for the season and produce decent number,s barring injury.
There is no "I" in team, but there is an "M" and an "E". |

Solid points, Matt Roberts.
You said a key thing though in your advanced stats talk . . . chances.
not goals.
chances.
Just like a certain Sergei Berezin (who did at least score thirty goals), he looks like he has the skill to do so much more, but never does. Playing on one of the top two lines, if you or your linemates aren't SCORING consistently on those created chances, you are just a good defensive line - something I want from my third line, my checking line.
I feel Grabo keeps down his linemates' potential, actually - we need someone more creative, or at least someone who can score more . . . but it has to be one or the other.
Not a chance maker.
