Anaheim basically steamrolls everyone with their big two dmen averaging over 30 mins a game and their powerplay catching fire. |

EAST:
Buffalo 4 - Montreal 2 New Jersey 4 - Carolina 1 Tampa Bay 4 - Atlanta 3 Pittsburgh 4 - Ottawa 2
Buffalo 4 - Pittsburgh 2 New Jersey 2 - Tampa Bay 4
Buffalo 4 - Tampa Bay 2
WEST:
Detroit 4 - Minnesota 2 Anaheim 4 - Vancouver 1 Calgary 4 - Dallas 2 Anaheim 3 - San Jose 4 (Great series though)
Detroit 2 - Anaheim 4 Calgary 3 - San Jose 4 :(
Anaheim 4 - San Jose 3
Buffalo 2 - Anaheim 4
A little on the safe side for bets but it seems to pan out that way the majority of the time. |

You have Anaheim playing twice in the first round, one of them losing to San Jose but then you have them moving on and later beating San Jose? |

Detroit and Nashville look great in the standings every year because of the weak division they play in.
Last season I picked 3/4 top seeds in the West to be eliminated in the first round. The Calgary/Duck series I had a real hard time deciding who would win that one. Because I didn't formally write down my predicitions I called that series a pick-em. I wouldn't claim 4/4 though because I never picked the flames or the ducks specifically.
That was last yr. however and if Dallas ends up in the top 3 seeds - I'm sure Nash. and Det. will be top 4 - I'm saying all 3 of those teams are out 1st round. Detroit does it with 30 min. a night from Lidstrom and some great mirriors but again will be too slow and unable to step up physically to win even 1 series in the playoffs. Nashville is barely above .500 since the new year and have plenty of questions entering the playoffs. Not that Nash. isn't a very good team but cheez c'mon look at their perspective first round opponents. There is no way in hell the preds beat either Cal. Van. or even Min. in the 1st round. Could they even beat the Sharks? Ditto for Dallas with their goalie who changes his name from 'Turco' to 'Turdco' come playoff time. Marty has been nothing short of brutal the last few seasons in the playoffs. This has got to the point that I'm betting it's in Marty's head.
Having said that, in the West I'm liking Vancouver, Anaheim, Calgary, or Minny to advance. Anaheim to me is still a bit of an enigma. They should be a favourite but I still question their grit and scoring depth come playoff time. Penner, Getzlaf and Perry's scoring seems to have dried up. The ducks we're an offensive juggernault early in the year but are having trouble scoring goals. The Sharks looked awesome too but now have had problems with some of their younger players who we're looking like stars. Now some like Bernier are still in the minors and Carle's looked pretty wet behind the ears lately. They've had such problems with some of the once promising looking young players who filled top six forward spots(Bernier, Bell, Michalek,) that they've resorted to playing Thorton and Marleau togethor on a regular line alot of times. Clowe's come up to play well and cheechoo's finally coming around. The Sharks don't have the depth or experience right now in my mind. They still could make a bit of a run though. This is coming from a guy who thought SJ was one of the best teams in the league a few months ago.
To pick one team to get to the finals I will lean towards my heart. I think Vancouver's got almost as good a chance as anybody. Honourable mention has to go to Anaheim.
Gotta think more on the East.

Oops...well judging by the standings you might of saw what I meant. But I wanted Nashville and San Jose in the first round. Nashville losing, hence anaheim not playing twice, everything else is fine. |

In the east i'm going to go with Buffalo. Briere just might have the will to lead the team to the cup. Western Nashville needs Vokun to get hot which may not happen but Hasek may be in his last year so i'm taking Detroit (if they get past the first round). Buffalo will win the cup |

Round 1(Divisional Quarterfinals)
EAST Mtl(8) over Buff(1) in 6 games NJ(2) over Car(7) in 5 games Tbay(3)over Atl(6) in 4 games Pitt(4) over Ott(5) in 7 games
WEST Nash(1) over Minn(8) in 7 games Ana(2) over Cgy(7) in 6 games Van(3) over SJ(6) in 6 games Det(4) over Dal(5) in 5 games
Round 2(Division Semifinals)
EAST Mtl over NJ in 6 games Pitt over Tbay in 7 games
WEST Det over Nsh in 6 games Van over Ana in 7 games
Round 3(Conference Finals) Mtl over Pitt in 7 games Det over Van in 5 games
Round 4(Stanley Cup Finals) Montreal wins the cup over Detroit in 6 games
Some notes: -Ryan Miller(Buf) gets hurt early in the first round -Keith Tkatchuk gets no more than 1 point in the playoffs -Crosby leads playoffs in scoring, despite being eliminated in conference finals -Hasek pulls a groin in conference finals, Osgood gets Wings to finals, then he gets hurt -Luongo is stellar in first two series, then is brutal in conference finals -Toronto misses the playoffs for the 2nd year in a row. A streak that continues well into the next decade
