Yeah, I'm American and I have the second highest number of posts on this forum.
The reason why the US has more teams is because we have a larger market that is capable of sustaining the teams, it has nothing to do with how many people are interested. Without us sustaining the NHL, all YOU Canadians would have practically nothing to watch. |

I agree, Canada just can't sustain a team, if Canada gota ll of the old teams they had back, they would probably go bankrupt and Mikhailova is right we would have nothing to watch.

then explain to me why Lacrosse is beating NHL hockey in the ratings
http://www.laxpower.com/laxnews/news.php?story=4711
the Devils had a 0,01 ratings for the game against Florida it is ridiculous!
New Jersey is maybe a big market but if nobody goes to the game and nobody watch the games on tv, how can they survive?
Anyway I'm glad to see that at least an american is posting here... from where are you? |

To answer your question Reiko24 Lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in the US, of course they play field (GAY) but the NLL is box!!(which is what i play) so basically lacrosse is probably more popular played the hockey so its only natural to have higher ratings.

As I said, it has nothing to do with the interest level. It's about the market capability to sustain teams. |

I'm an american, but now i live in Canada. And Mik's right, the US has a couple cities with more than a million people and all teams are capable of selling at least 10,000 seats, except maybe NJ 'cause there are way too many teams in the New York area. |

The NHL has always had a problem bringing the TV audiences in. It's always been a game that people new to the sport have had to see in person before understanding the game. It moves too quickly for our slow American minds for us to be able to comprehend. I'm hoping with the continued development of high definition programming that television ratings will start to rise. |
