Hmm, I was going to pick Knuble but NHL.com said he is American. However, Phili's site says his birthplace is Ontario. Is that fair to tell us he is Candaian if it is Knuble? |

It is easy to prove a players citizenship by where he was born. Many players that may have been born in Europe may have taken on a Canadian citizenship or American, but we are talking about where they were born...
What kind of proof would anyone have that Knuble is American...He was born in Toronto Canada...Wikipedia does not count...
Knuble is Correct...Your board Guest8836...
PS: Did you know that Brian Trottier played for both Canada and the USA at the international level, he was born in Canada but became a US citizen...He would still be considered Canadian...

Brett Hull played for the Americans as well, but he was born in Canada.
Dany Heatley was born in Germany, does that mean he is not considered Canadian??

Kash, no one is freaking out.
I am just saying that maybe we should be a little more specific with this questions. So rather than asking if the player is Canadian, we should ask if the player was born in Canada.

I think it is best to stick to the country that a player is born in. For some players it may be obvious that they have dual, or even changed their citizenship over the years.
For example they may have played for another country than which they were born, and we can see that from stats. Other players may have just changed citizenship but never played for that country (tax reasons).
There could be many, many Canadian players that have dual citizenship with the USA, but if they were born in Canada, I would consider them Canadian...Bryan Trottier has played internationally for both Canada and the USA, I still consider him Canadian...
Dany Heatley German (dual citizenship with Canada) Peter Stastny Czechoslovakian (dual citizenship with Canada) Bryan Trotter Canadian (dual citizenship with USA) Brett Hull Canadian (dual citizenship with USA) Petr Nedved Czechoslovakian (dual citizenship with Canada) Mike Knuble Canadian (dual citizenship with USA)
The list goes on...
