Naw thats what happens when a coach changes the game plan after they have owned the rink for the first 2 periods, I have never uderstood a coach who changes the gameplan asking a his steam to lay back into a defensive shell. For godskaes you are up 3 nothing keep apllying pressure and play the same way! I know how to hate this first hand being a habs fan and wactching them on nightly basis go up b a goal and then just stay back and try and make it last.......

Pasty.....i thought about this last night. Unfortunately for me, i only got to see bits and pieces of the 3rd period as i was working late. I saw none of the first two and even the third was without volume in a lounge whilst in a meeting so i could only sneak peaks now and then and basically keep up with the score, or should i say, the collapse?
Here's the thing. In my mind, ANY team at ANY level which is one of the top teams, should be able to smother a team for a period with a 3 goal lead! I know it's said time and time again to not change but 3 goals, with a goalie who's been playing really well? With a D that's played really well? With forwards who've been backchecking better than most ever will? Maybe at 3-0 he should have kept the pedal to the metal and i didn't see how they came out in the 3rd so i can't comment, but as soon as the Russian's got one, then i'd have clamped down defensively. Prob was, they got the second one so quick it turned to panic!
I dunno, i'm certainly not a coach but i do feel terrible for the guy. What a way to be remembered! It'd have been like Team USA in '80 beating the Russian's like they did and then losing the gold medal game! We beat the tournament favorite and then lose to a team we'd already beat handily?? Crazy.....
AND, how bad do you feel for Brayden Schenn and especially Ryan Ellis? Wow...... |
