Anyway there was clearly a misunderstanding.

There was, on both sides - I haven't been in a points-only pool for so long now, I forgot they are still done . Agreed, in a points-only non-positional pool and with a multiplier for goals, Selanne would probably go higher.

Selanne has 14 points in his first 14 games this season, and he recently surpassed Mats Sundin and Guy Lafleur in most overall points. At the present time, he sits tied with Brendan Shanahan with 1354 points in his NHL career, and he's poised to overtake Johnny Bucyk (1369 pts), Mike Modano (1374 pts), Brett Hull (1391) in overall points this season.

Will the Finnish Flash pass his Finnish countryman, Jari Kurri, this hockey season? Kurri finished his NHL career with 1398 points in regular season play, the most points ever by a Finn. Selanne needs another 45 points to become the highest scoring player (points) from Finland, and unless injuries get in his way, I'm betting he gets it done this season.

Good for him! He's a classy player, and for him to play at his current level at his age is quite amazing!

Thanks for the update, guest! It is truly amazing how he just doesn't seem to age . . . stunning, really.

The all time list of goal scorers, regular season NHL, that Teemu Selanne is crawling upwards on:

To update his place on the all-time scorers list:

1. Gretzky, 894
2. Howe, 801
....
9. Mario Lemieux, 690
10.Luc Robitaille, 668
11.Brendan Shanahan, 656
12. Jaromir Jagr, 652
13. Teemu Selanne, 642
14.Dave Andreychuk, 640
15.Joe Sakic, 625

Interesting dynamic here, as Selanne would have been able to pass Jagr if not for him coming back to the NHL this year, and Jagr has 6 goals to Selanne's 5 this year so far. Jagr should pass Shanahan and probably Robitaille, and might have a shot at Lemieux at the end of the day.

Which means that Selanne probably ends up at #11 all-time if he continues on the way he has.

Jagr needs 32 more goals to pass lemieux, which would have him getting at least 38 on the year. That is a steep goal! But would be totally incredible if he could pull it off
