For hoping for an injury to Niemi, early tonight?

The Sharks have lost Nittymaki for an undisclosed period of time after he hurt himself this afternoon at practice. They then called UBC and are doing what the Canucks did back in '03 (i think?) when they signed a UBC goalie for a 1 day contract.

This kid's numbers don't look too good either. 7 wins, 11 losses, 3.51 GAA and a .876 save %. Yikes, and that's at the university level???

I'd have to assume that if a guy like this did in fact have to play, the other team would build a quick lead and then "take their foot off the gas"?

Alex, you should feel bad. Very VERY bad.

Ah yes, I remember that game a ways back... the UBC call up to backup Cloutier at the time. Cloutier appeared to get hurt during the second period too, and there was speculation that Crow would throw the backup in. They zoomed in on Crow's face, he was just smiling. They zoom in on the goalie's face, and he looks like a deer in the headlights. In the end he didn't make it into the game, but it was quite a scare at the time.

Not entirely certain, but pretty sure it was actually Hedberg in net that night? Cloutier was likely already hurt?

To be honest, it's not a Canuck thing at all. It's not as though i'm looking for the easy win, although i'll take any win at this point. I'd just be really interested in two things. First, just how good, or bad, would a kid be when he's prob never faced anywhere near the quality opposition he'd be up against. Second, if as suspected, the goals poured in, how would the other team react?

Curiosity more than anything really. It's make a great story, and to be totally honest, if i were him, i'd love the opportunity! He could then say, "i played in the NHL"!!!

Well, looks like they shoulda run Niemi!!!

I don't like these games where we give up 40+ shots! Another thing, i noticed tonight that the Sharks really played well on the PK. Yeah, the Canucks had their chances, but most were point shots. True, these often lead to goals, but it looked like the Sharks really took Kesler out of the play by having a guy stick to him when the puck went to the side boards. Maybe the Canucks need to tweak their PP a bit? Maybe teams are onto them, cuz they've not been getting the results they had for the first half of the season.

it was a goaltending duel tonight, both goalies played fantastic games. I still think Niemi is going to come on strong in the second half of the year, and if he keeps playing like he did tonight SJ should quickly move up the standings. Luongo kept them in it tonight, 1g on 45 shots is pretty stellar, and we get a point from it.

The Canucks are in a bit of a slump right now, they don't look themselves on the PP (tentative, too much passing, looking for the pretty play). They still have their speed and puck possession and a solid PK, but very little finish around the net. That might be due to 14 games in the last 26 nights (!), they have to be tired. I didn't think they'd keep up their pace of December/early January for long, so its not much of a surprise that they're falling back to earth a bit. They'll pick it up again.
