Here's the deal ladies and gentlemen. Andyhack has put an idea in my head. Let's have a Greatest of All Time Draft. The draft will include 10 teams. I have listed names on the bottom of the people I would like to see in the forum. These are people that I have had great debates with or with opinions I highly value. Please let me know if you are interested or not. We will go 1 through 10 round one, then 10 through 1 round 2 and continue on rotating until the teams are set. 12 forwards, 6 defense, and 2 goalies. Then, I will make a poll with everyone's team and let the people decide whose team is the best. Let’s do our best to do at least one round of picks in a day or two tops except for week ends.
Who's in??
Andyhack, Beans15, Willus3, Babs, Mik, Framer87, semin rules, IHC, Leigh, Pucknuts.
If everyone is in, that will make 10. Please post to say if you are interested or not. If so, pick a number between 1-100. Who ever is closest will get 2nd pick and so on. It’s my draft I get first pick!
Sorry for those who I missed. More than 10 would be too time consuming and tough to manage.

Beans, I think this is a genius idea. You can take first pick all you want, I hate being anywhere near the front or the end in snake drafts anyways. May I make a few suggestions though?
1) Leave Gretzky out of this. Pools in the 80's used to always exclude Gretzky because he was beyond a blue chipper. Given the fact that you will be picking first and you're a die-hard Oilers fan, we all know who you are picking first. I just think that seen as you're guaranteed Gretzky, it gives you a huge, unfair advantage.
2) Instead of waiting until everyone picks a number, randomly assign all the members you mentioned a number from 1-10. Once you're done, I'll randomly choose an order with numbers from 1-10 (not knowing who you assigned to what number) and that will be our order. That way it's all done in one shot.
3) Not to be unfair to IHC, but he hasn't posted in quite a while and Oil is quite an active member, I think you should give him the nod in IHC's place.
What do you think? |

Ok Babs, I like some of your ideas, but leaving Gretzky out defeats part of my point. On the Best Player of all time forum, Andyhack stated that Gretzky would be a poor first pick. Obviously I would pick him first. My point was to see what other people thought, a team lead by Gretzky or a team lead by another player?We should leave it up to the pep's in the pool. Doesn't matter to me either way. Although, you could make the same arguement for other players as well. Orr, Howe, ect. My vote is he is in. What do others think?? And if you think I would have an advantage, I won't take 1st pick. I will go in the mix with anyone else. And although you and I would more than likely take Gretzy, you know that Willus would take Orr, and Andyhack has said he would take Messier first. I say leave him in, put me in the mix for who picks where and that way it's the luck of the draw. You never know, someone might take Gretzky then poorly pick the rest of the team.
And I agree, IHC has not been very active. Oil Country is in, IHC is out. I will hold the rest of the people on a reserve list if others that I stated do not want in, you will be in.
And your idea of the numbers works well. We will do that.

Beans, I know this isn't easy and it's not a daycare centre but I think you should consider including Leigh in this. He is one of the longest-standing members of the forum and has delivered quite his share of thoughts over the years.

Ok Beans, assuming you've assigned the numbers, here is my random order:
1-7-5-3-2-10-4-9-8-6 (As chosen by my trusty graphing calculator!).
So Mr. Bean, what's our order?
BTW, tctitans has a great idea. Those of you who are on the reserve list could start your own, so the pools stay small and everyone can participate. |

If Andyhack does not reply by the morning when I get up I will pick a different person.
And just a head's up, I am not sure how the first few picks will be, but if Orr and Gretzky are not in the top three, not only will you get razzed by me ferociously, you do not have as good of a hockey mind as I think you do.
Again, once we start let's try to keep it moving pretty smoothly. Please do your research and have a good 6-12 players you want on your team all the time. That way, we can keep it going quickly and get the teams up for people to vote on.

Andyhack gave me the idea so I feel somewhat that he should have a crack to get in. I doubt he will for some reason, so be ready. Looks like you would be 3rd pick.
