For the 2nd time this year and 4th time in his career, Dan Hamhuis has suffered a concussion. He was involved in a hit with Rick Nash and Kevin Bieksa. From the look of the video, it didn't seem all that bad but i did see a highlight on tv which i was able to slow down and you can see his head hit the ice pretty good.

Not sure how long he's going to be out, but another huge blow to the Canucks (and to me and my bet with Beans)

Ouch!
That's a tough break on what should have been a pretty standard hip check. Not sure if it's head hitting the ice or Nash getting checked in to him.
In the Steckel/Crosby thread a while ago, it was inferred that these guys, as pros, know exactly where everyone is in their lines of sight and that inadvertent contact never happens, this is proof of just that.
It's freaky that it seems that most checks that aren't thrown perfectly lately, seem to end up in some sort of injury for either hitter or hitee.
This just seems like it shouldn't have had the outcome it did, both Nash and the other Dman skate away, unscathed. Hamhuis doesn't. Weird.
Perhaps the residual effects from the other concussions make him susceptible to any contact with the noggin'?
Hope it's not serious and he recovers healthily. Tough break for you Canuckleheads going in to the playoffs. |

| it was apparently him hitting his head on the ice, he went down awkwardly. yeah, I hope he's back soon too, and I wonder if he's more susceptible to them now that he's had a few too... |

| i heard that after the first concussion he said if he got another one he would be thinking of retiring. so he may never come back. |

Lots of talk on the radio today about all this. The good news is he apparently feels quite good today and is staying with the team for the last game of the road trip rather than flying back to Van right away. He won't play tomorrow night, but it's a little good news to hear that he's feeling "okay" today.
Def the accumulation of concussions has to be a factor. |

| According to Bieksa, Hammer isn't feeling too bad and in pretty good spirits. Some reports coming out of the Van camp suggest he'll be back in two weeks or so. Good news now lets just hope we can go, I dunno, four consecutive games without an injury. |

| I have to say, I wouldn't mind them resting Hamhuis the rest of the way - bring him back for the last couple of games to get his legs back, but let him sit until then. Sounds like he could use the rest, and we're playing for very little these days. |

Ya for sure. I was listening to Pratt and Taylor today and they were saying the same thing. The Hammer is going to be even more prone to concussions now, with our lead in the west, zero cap issues and depth on the back end (also with Edler and Alberts starting to skate) we can afford to sit him out a few extra games.
The only thing that hurts us in the playoffs now is Manny. Good thing we got Higgins, he looked incredible and Max has done well with over 14 minutes per game and still a +1 (but under 50% in the FO), I like everyone else have high hopes for this post season. |

The argument came up about resting players (on the radio). It's so difficult. You can't rest everyone and sure some would say rest the Sedin's but you also have to be realistic. With Daniel close to the Art Ross and in the mix for the Hart, it's not an easy thing to do. Sure, you have to put the team first, but you also have to realize that guys have bonuses, pride, etc involved too.
They also brought up the fact that teams can only have 4 call ups after the trade deadline. So, you have to have enough healthy bodies to fill in if you start sitting guys! At this point, losing any of their top guys would be a blow, just like Manny is a blow. You can't rest too many of them and the best thing to do is to cut their ice time a bit. Someone brought up a good point that maybe the Sedin's shouldn't be on the first unit pp when up a couple goals in the third, like they were the other day. Then again, it brings you right back to the Art Ross, etc. No doubt AV was trying to give Daniel a chance at some extra points. |

I don't think they'll rest the Sedin's, but on the other hand, I don't think they're particularly taxed either. The Canucks have been playing 4 lines pretty steadily over the last few weeks, and will probably continue to do so thru the end of the season as there is really nothing on the line except personal awards. The Sedin's should be pretty fresh.
As well, we're going to have some very fresh defensemen in Edler and Alberts to kick off the post season, and perhaps Hamhuis too.
The only one I'd consider resting is Kesler. Ever since Malhotra went down they've been riding him pretty hard defensively, he takes a mammoth number of faceoffs now and has been double shifted on the 3rd line occasionally. He's the one guy we can't afford to get tired deep in the playoffs. |

| Remember that people pay to go watch these guys play. I'd be pissed if I paid good money for a ticket and all the good players were resting. |
