I don't know how this would work but tell me if you like the idea. We choose the best teams ever from history (eg.67 Leafs) and play them against each other like a playoff thing. Each week a new series is posted and will run for 1 week before i lock it. Then the winner goes on to the next round untill we have determined the champion. I will post the matchup's in a poll, that way anyone can vote. we need 16 teams(8 per confrence) but Im to lazy to look up all of the teams so i want you guys (And MIK) to give me suggestions on which team to put.
Teams I have chosen 67 Leafs 78 Islanders (ive heard it was the best) 79 Canadians (i think this was the team that only lost 8 games though unsure)
Try and look for other great teams and post them here. When we have assembled 16 teams, i will start polls.
I would put the 84-85 Oilers against any team, any era, any time.
You coudl put the Oilers against the 70's Habs for a laugh. The 73 Habs would have had the toughest time to dispose them. The 71 Habs also woudl have been in tough. Still I think each woudl have beat them in 6 or 7.
The 76 Habs woudl have swept the 85 Oilers but close games. The 78 Habs would have won it in 5 or 6. The 79 Habs in 5 or 6. The 77 Habs (8 losses) would have swept them easily.
The Habs would have stifled the Oilers with tight checking. And no one on the OIlers could have stopped Lafleur at his peak.
I dont see them beating the Habs. And I saw each decade. Did you?
The Oilers were too 1 dimensional and owe their Cups to playing in a weak divison which (like the 60's Blues) virtually guranteed them a FInals spot. Well rested and no injuries either.
