PHILADELPHIA I don't think that anyone would of picked them to be where they are now.
PS. Not sure why this is in Hockey History? |

Canucks of course!
Name me ONE person who would have said that after 65 games this year, that they would be in 6th, yes 6th!, place in the National Hockey League.
Ahead of teams like Ottawa, Tampa, San Jose, Dallas, ... and the list goes on.
Amazing...
Perhaps not an abundance of great talent, but they are a great t-e-a-m.
(Babs, this ones for you: I hope the Nux make shark-bait of the the dogfish tonight! :)) |

There, moved to the appropriate forum. Yeah, so whenever you create a topic/poll, it gets created in the forum you're in at the time.
I won't set any high expectations, Nabokov will be playing. SJ will have to outscore Vancouver because I think out-defending them is almost out of the question. Don't get me wrong though, I have faith in my team as long as Marleau steps it up a bit. Anyways, back to the topic...
I'm not surprised that Philly is doing badly but I didn't think they'd be doing THAT badly. |

I voted for my beloved Oilers! I at least expected them to make the 2nd round of the playoffs this year, never mind miss them altogether, like it looks like what is going to happen. With a team with as much depth as they have, it sure is disapointing to see them where they are. Also I didn't expect the Canucks to be doing as well either. THIS IS KILLING ME TO WATCH THIS!!! AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!

It must reallly hurt. Better you than me.
I knew the Oilers were in big trouble because of their poor D, but I really thought that they had depth up-front and that they would be scoring lots of goals... Heck, even Van has more goals than the Oil... now that must hurt! |

Yes, yes it does. I'm not a bandwagon jumper by any means, but as much as I don't like the Canucks, if they end up going deep into the playoffs against an American team, they will have my support just 'cuz they're in Canada. But until that happens, well, you know.

I am most surprised at Vancouver this year. I picked them to slide into 8th spot (at best), not win the div. There's still a lot of hockey left and I think my Flames can regain control but every game Vancouver looks more and more solid. Good coaching and sweet goaltending. Not to mention some surprise scoring at opportune times. They rode Luongo at the mid-season mark and now the team is playing well too.
As for the Oil I picked them to miss the playoffs. After losing Pronger their D looked suspect. I've never been a big fan of Roli. I love some of the forwards they have but I thought they needed time. If they can get some D and a premiere power forward, as well as keep some of their promising young forwards, (Hemsky, Pisani etc.) I think they will make it next year.
Philly was a surprise to me at the beginning of the season. I thought they looked better on paper.
Carolina is a big surprise to me too. |

I am most surprised about the Pens. I thought that they might just barley make a playoff spot at the beginning of the season. They have a lot of good players but are very young. So they surprised me. |

This is what i dont like, you spend the whole year hatiing the team, but then u support them in the playoffs, not once in the last 2 stanley cup playoffs had i wanted the oilers or the flames to do well (except in the 1st round last year cause the wings are my bro's team) i never jumped on any bandwagons and cheered for Tampa(who was my second fav team before that anyway) and carolina in the finals just because of my hatred towards those other teams

A team noone has voted for, heck even mentioned yet is the Carolina Hurricanes. The team wn the Stanley Cup last year and is feverishly battleing for a spot this year. And they were second in the Eastern Confrence last year too. I voted for Emonton however, they suck this year and its hard to believe they were within a game of the Cup last year.

Haha Mik, not after last night, the Sharks were out played the whole game and if it wasnt for Nabokov and a really good defensive play by someone on the sharks with little time left in the second on Pyatt the canucks could have won by a few goals

Vancouvers doing very well but i think everyones looked past what the islanders have done this season. No one ever expects the islanders to be even close to playoff contention but here they are right in the heat of the battle and now have one of the most complete hockey players in the game with ryan smyth im a leafs fan but ted nolan garth snow and ya you gotta give it to the chinese owner are due a lot of credit. |

I agree completely that the Isles should be given some credit. They have done a pretty good job with what they got. That being said, they havent done that much yet and are still struggling for a playoff position. |

Didn't I call it? Vancouver out-defended SJ, despite doing a good job. Marleau did score and it is depressing that Guerin hasn't done squat yet but whatever. As long as SJ makes the playoffs anything can happen. They certainly won't taker over the Pacific with Nabokov in net.
Obviously my heart is for SJ coming out of the West for the Finals, but if not them then it will be the Canucks, mark my words. On a smaller scale, why not have all 3 Canadian teams beat the Sharks at least once in the playoffs, but the real reason is that Luongo will only let in 1 or 2 goals every game. I truly think that this will be enough for Vancouver and they are honestly the ONLY team I don't want SJ to face in the playoffs. |

Dear Mr.Canucks Fan:
The only reason I would support that lousy team is if they were the last CANADIAN team left, so this does not mean I love the Nucks, but I am supporting hockey for CANADA!!! Get over yourself and love the country you live in and support it!!!!

I hate when people cheer for teams just because they're the last Canadian team left. You mustn't have any team pride... The last two Canadian teams who made it to the Finals both had to beat the Sharks to get there so was I going to cheer for them just cause they were Canadian? Hell no. Tampa and Carolina all the way. Patriotism has nothing to do with it, the only thing Canadian about these teams is the city they play in. Hell, more than 3/4 of Tampa's 2003-04 team was Canadian... |

Anaheim. They've come back to Earth lately, but who thought they were going to be this good. Chicago too, No Havlat for most of the year, Handzus has been out since the middle of October, Khabibulin and Ruutu both missed extended periods all because of injuries. They're going to be good next year if they stay healthy.

Exactly. Look at the combined rosters of all the Canadian teams; a good third of it consists of Swedes, Finns, Russians, Czechs, Slovaks, and Americans.

I also support Canadian teams in the Playoffs, after my beloved Canucks of course. But really, I support the fans. I will cheer for Calgary or Edmonton, not because I like the team - God no! - but because I believe the Cup belongs in Canada. And I feel that the fans who truly love the game should be the ones who get to experience the euphoria of their team winning it all. Except Toronto, of course. As much as I hate Calgary and Edmonton, I somehow doubt that the Cup captured the attention of Tampa Bay and Carolina the way it would north of the 49th. Sporstnet or TSN did an article in Tampa Bay the day after they won the Cup, asking people how they felt about their team winning the Stanley Cup. The most common response was, "Winning the what?" I can't cheer for that! |

I'll agree with you there. Though being one of the more die-hard American hockey fans, I like the Cup here just because it's easier to get to the game, but I think it should definitely be in Canada because there are a lot more fans there who will love to watch it. Tampa Bay? It's 90 degrees in April, I'm sure a game played on ice is the first thing on everybody's mind.
Take it to Canada. |

Well unfortunately the Cup doesn't go to the team whose fanbase is the most Canadian or the coldest city, it goes to the most deserving team. I am Canadian and have never seen the real Cup but there are fans in those cities too, and I'm sure those fans want to see it as much as us. When the Jays won the World Series in 1992 and 1993, did it really matter that it was the USA's national sport? Whichever team wins deserves it and their city is the only place it belongs. |
