Poll Question:
If you could ONLY let in ONE of the following players to the Hall of Fame, who would it be (or one of your own choices BUT they have to have retired before '2000)?
Also, if you were to let them all in, what would be the order?

My answer will not be Rick Middleton as Number 1 by the way. As mentioned in the Late 70s Bruins thread, I do think Nifty should be in there too, but I agree he is a tough call. But, particularly if the scale is Bernie Federko (another great player who is in, but also borderline HOF material ) then Nifty should be there too.
But I think there is one player in particular on that list that just absolutely has to be in the HOF and the fact that he isn't is beyond amazing to me! There are others that are pretty surprising to me, but only one that really really makes me wonder whether the voters have been smoking major amounts of something other than popeye cigarettes the last few years. |

I Think all of them will be in the HHOF some day, and this would be the order that I would choose:
Rogie Vachon
Rick Middleton
Dino Ciccarelli
Steve Larmer
Glenn Anderson
Doug Wilson

SORRY! That was the one, actually. I went to Wilkepedias and they didn't have the Hall of Fame link at the bottom for Hawerchuk (though I now notice it is in the text). Okay, which of the others then, and what's the order?
I'll take Hawerchuk off now. |

I would vote for Nifty, but it is VERY tough.
My order:
1. Middleton - what this guy could do with the puck was amazing. He was the flashiest, but he certainly was Nifty! ;) He made the players around him better and he was 100% class.
2. Ciccarelli - Tough call between Middleton and Ciccarelli. Ciccarelli is a slam dunk in all aspects if not for his stick swining incident and off-ice issues. If only his on-ice hockey was considered, he'd be in the hall already.
3. Larmer is all class and should be in the hall without a doubt. Overshadowed by Savard in Chicago, but he still quitely always got the job done.
4. Doug Wilson - another great all around Dman. Great offensive skill while being a tough bugger in his own end.
5. Anderson/Vachon
Looking at this list, I think they should all be in the hall one day, my order is above. |

| Yeah, sorry again guys - maybe I'm the guy smoking something funny! I guess cause Hawerchuk is so underappreciated, when I looked at his Wilkipedia summary and didn't see the HOF link, I assumed he even missed out on that honor. Luckily, I was wrong. Well now it becomes a more interesting question anyway. You have a James Norris Trophy winner, a Vezina trophy winning goalie who despite playing on mediocre teams most of his career put up good numbers (and played quite well for Canada in '76 Canada Cup), a couple of guys who topped 100 points at least a couple of times, etc. |

I can imagine most are you are thinking I am going to say Glenn Anderson. Granted, his 6 Cup rings and his clutch playoff performances do put him #2 on my list. He's not my pick.
And it's not Dino either. Great stats, great player. He was a talent but a meatball. The stick swinging and the indecent exposure conviction have no place in the Hall of Fame.
Wilson and Middleton were also great talents, but not ahead of Anderson.
My pick is Steve Larmer. He was a great player on a barely above average team. He was solid through his entire career and got his Cup in 94.
One of my all time favorite players, Steve Larmer should be in the Hall. |
