I just read on twitter where Larry Brooks reported that Marc Staal didn't particpate in the Rangers scrimmage this afternoon because of lingering effects from a hit last February by his brother Eric! Apparently he's been cleared for contact, but won't dress for any of the Rangers pre-season games in North America.

Feb? Did he sit out the last part of the season? Play through it? Now it's an issue? What'd i miss?

I'd definitely be a bit alarmed about this . . . real late in the day to be getting concussion symptoms after the fact. Does this mean he never worked out hard during the summer, or . . . ?

Odd one, for sure.

Marc Staal has begun skating with the team in practises, but apparently still has the odd bad day. He said he does plan on playing at some point this season, but his return is a long ways off yet.

Not to mention, he is the best D-men on NYR. See how New York is faring without him.

Ryan McDonagh has really stepped up this season and has emerged as a top pair defender...which has really helped out in the absence of Staal. McDonagh is playing upwards of 26/27 minutes most nights.

Michael Del Zotto's promising career is back on track as well as he's refound his rookie form. MDZ played just under 28 minutes the other night against Montreal. He's looked very good on the PP the last couple weeks.

Once Staal does return, the Rangers are going to have a very deep top 4 in Staal, Girardi, McDonagh & Del Zotto...as well as steady sophomore Michael Sauer.

Even though both Del Zotto and McDonagh are awesome. They're both young. Not to mention, Staal and Girardi are an awsome shot blocking duo
