there should be some kind of suspension, thats just a dirty play. OV's defense was that his stick was just moving as he skated up the ice, but its clear from the replay that he intentionally stuck it into Neil's midsection. 1-2 games I think. |

I agree, but i just heard that there will be no suspension!
nuxfan, did you see the Ville Leino elbow to the head of the Philly guy? Can't remember who it was but it was certainly intentional. Apparently he got 1 game, and this is a prime example of my complaint of them penalizing on the outcome. If that guy was concussed, he'd likely be sitting for 10 or more! |

LOL that was the softest spear ever. I really like the way Neil plays the game tough and hard, but come on bud. Grow a pair get back out there and hit OV like you did the shift you got back. No suspension! If they do this league is soft as butter |

As much as I think Neil is the biggest coward in the game today a spear is a spear no matter how weak of a spear it was and a penalty should have been called. It is really hard to tell if Ovie did it intentionally or not but my bet would be Ovie gutted the coward Neil on purpose. Looks like Hunters influence behind the bench is taking hold! By the way did I mention that I think Neil is a coward anyways. |

Neil is the biggest coward in the game? Interesting take, considering he often fights players much bigger than him. |

Soft spear or not, it should have been a penalty. I have no doubt it was intent and if you can't see the little extra he put into it (it wasn't just an unfortunate bit of contact from a regular skating move) you're blind!
Guys don't wear a ton of padding in the stomach area either, so it wouldn't take a whole lot to hurt a guy to some degree. I'm not saying Neil didn't perhaps make it look a little worse than it was, but again, i go back to my point that they shouldn't punish on the outcome and punish on the act and potential damage it could have! |

That was a spear and should have been a penalty ! No way was that a skating miscue!! He should get at least a fine not sure a suspension is needed here. |

Maybe it was maybe it wasn't but you can forget about the suspension. That is Alex Ovechkin and whether you like it or not he isn't getting suspended without killing someone. Isn't a spear when you kinda butt end somebody with your stick? Thought it was more of a slash but I guess it doesn't really matter. |

First and foremost, you obviously know little about the NHL. FYI, Ovechkin has been suspended before, and as far as i know, it wasn't for murder.
Secondly, this is from NHL.com: 62.1 Spearing - Spearing shall mean stabbing an opponent with the point of the stick blade, whether contact is made or not.
