Not surprisingly, Jacques Martin has been fired in Montreal and replaced on an interim basis by Randy Cunneyworth.

It must be celebrating in Patsy land.

I don't know if the Habs can pull it off without Martin. They were competing because of his defensive system. If they are to win, Gionta, Cammalleri and Plekanec have to come out of their shell.

i am quite happy and anxious to see if Randy can bring a spark to the Plekanec`s and Cammalleri`s in the habs roster, but this team needed a change, and let`s face it the players that were underperforming are un moveable with their big contracts, so the coach is the easiest move to make,, i am anxious to see the habs game tonight

I really can`t see Montreal being a better team without J.M...Their forwards are speedy but small, i`m seeing this with the leafs too...so hard to cycle the puck down low for any amount of time without bigger forwards these days...most D - men are so huge and have no problem pushing the smaller forwards around in the corners.

Without long puck cycles in the opposing teams zone, the puck is going to be in your zone more of the time.

J . M isn`t the cause of this problem, its the GM...P.G. for not giving his team more size up front. I know he brought in E. Cole with good size but more was needed.

I agree P.G is a huge problem but on a positive note on this front, from what i understand, Gauthier went to Jeff Molson and said i am thinking of fireing J.M , Molson said to Gauthier ok but you are not allowed to hire anyone elese because i`m thinking of fireing you and i don`t want to get stuck paying your new coach if i fire you and hire someone else, so if you are makeng any changes thay must be made from within. Basicly Jeff Molson is giving Gauthier one last shot if Mr. Cunnyworth can`t pull it off a new GM will be coming in,

and Dukey to support your theory Consistenly the habs best line throughout the season has been the Eller, Kostitsyn , Moen line... like you said bigger forwards can cycle the puck and substain pressure better,, Eller 6ft 2 Kostitsyn 6ft 1 Moen 6 ft 2, and recently the habs best line has been Deharnais Pacioretty Cole, now i know D.D is 5ft 6 but Pacioretty and Cole are both over 6ft 2, so again it supports your theory, and the line that everyone is surprised is not producing is Plek Gionta Cammy,, plek being the biggest at 5ft 10 ...... so their may be some merit to your Argument Mr. Dukinator

Kind of funny (to me) how Quebecers are freaking out because Cunneyworth isn't from Quebec and can't speak French. Now Patrick Roy's name is being thrown around in the press as a possible candidate for the coaching job? The Canadiens are certainly an institution out there...

I will you tell you one thing for a FACT, the vast majority of Quebecers (i am one) are not freaking out over the language thing, the french media is, the negative voice is the loudest, everyone i have talked to has said the same thing as i say,,, the best coach possible ,,,,,,

^ Amen to that, I'm sick of the medias, they always say things (like with the Quebec Nordiques) that make us look bad. Like continuously arguing about the french-speaking coach thing, it's irritating.

I don`t agree with this Quebec born thing....although he was a player there ( not coach ), it seems to me the people on Montreal worshipped Larry Robinson who was born in rival Ontario ( leafland ) so there it is.

Why not bring in Larry for a coach ?? He spent a lot of his life there.

apparently the move they want to make (simply Rumour) is they want LEmaire as GM and Robinson as coach

I don't blame Martin but Gauthier. It's his bad trades that give Martin nothing to work with. But since he's fired I say they go sign RANDY CARLYLE.

I don't think he speaks French.... so he's obviously off the short list.

With the Habs losing 4-0 to the Jets, their woes are continued.

Getting skunked and in need of a French-speaking coach, there is only one logical choice...Pepe Le Pew!!

I don't know how to take the "in need of a french speaking coach" comment with the way the post ended, but it did get me thinking about that as i actually have heard it tossed around in conversations. Maybe Pasty, or another Hab fan, could chime in? Is the fan base upset with the choice to give Cunneyworth a shot? Do french speaking Hab fans get pissed when they don't hire a french speaking coach???

As far as Cunneyworth goes, they were discussing on the radio yesterday how it was a very odd time to make the change being that the team was just heading out on what looked to be a difficult road trip where results weren't going to come easy. I guess what they're saying is, you like to set a new coach up to succeed if possible? I dunno if that really comes into play with coaching changes though?

Pasty, as far as the new coach goes, and i believe you were one excited for a change, what's with the Eller benching last night? At least, that's what i heard he was doing? He and Subban? You being a fan of Eller, can't like that can you? Or, has Eller been really bad lately? I find it hard to believe he could have sucked so bad in the few games Cunneyworth's beein in control? Any insight on the benching (or did it even happen?)?
