which Canadian City would you like to see the NHL expand to? I know it will never happen........but just for kicks

It really makes sense to expand to Winnipeg over the others in terms of a fan base. You can argue about London and NS and Hamilton as sensible hockey towns for NHL franchises (I'm in no way conceding that they are), but the people who live in those cities, the would be "great fans" already have a team they cheer for and have cheered for all their lives, be it TO, Ottawa, Montreal . . . I can hardly imagine a loyal Toronto fan who lives in Hamilton suddenly deciding to go cheer for the new expansion franchise in town and abandon their Leafs, especially en masse. Like Saku, would you just decide to stop cheering for the Canadiens because you had a team in Halifax? I sure hope not, that wouldn't make you a loyal fan.
Sure I enjoy taking in a hockey game as much as the next student of the game, so I may head out to the game of the new team in town. But am I gonna buy the jersey? Nope. Am I gonna get the souvenier beer for the extra 2 bucks? Nope. Am I gonna crowd into a busy bar to watch the game night after night when their away? Nope. Those expansion franchises in Hamilton, London, or Halifax will lack loyal fan bases in their formative years and lead to disasters down the road.
Winnipeg, on the other hand, lacks this deeply rooted allegiance because they lost their team. Instead of allegiance, they have a void. I do have some quabbles about sending a team to Winnipeg though. They refused to build an arena to keep their team, but are willing to build one once they leave. That seems real f***ed up to me. Because of these issues, I voted for the Great White North. They have never had a franchise to screw up and just imagine how good the ice would be there. |

| Anyone ever see a Regina Pat's game?? I am thinking with a populations base and a decent corporate community, Regina would be the best NHL city in Canada. |

lol, what I was thinking was if we got a team, I could go watch the Habs! Or finally just see a NHL game!
PS. Montreal would be my fav. team but Halifax would be a very close 2nd. |

The expansion teams through the north eastern states didn't seem to have a problem getting fans to convert from whoever it was they cheered for. The Islanders for instance joined the same city as the existing Rangers. I don't think people in London or Hamilton would have any problem cheering for their new team. Especially considering the way the Leafs organization has abused their fans by not providing an excellent team year after year when they easily could have afforded to. Loyalty schmoyalty.

| I voted "other"... Quebec City. I think they have the biggest population out of all the options there and people love hockey there as well. The 'peg was a close runner up. |

Winnipeg has proven time over to be a great hockey town. Granted, I can't imagine the NHL going back there, I think it'd be the best place.

I appreciate the love, but as a Reginan (well, I live very close to it, anway), I can say with 100% confidence that Regina could not support an NHL team.
For starters, the Brandt Centre only holds 6500 at best (with standing room). On some nights the Pats only draw 2 000 fans.
Also, Regina has about 190 000 people, and no major centre around it (unless you count Moose Jaw's 55 000). It is also a government/union/leftist/communist (I went too far) city, so there are very few corporate dollars. All the big Regina corporations are now in Calgary.
I voted Winnipeg. They are big enough, have a decent sized arena, and a great fan base already there.
I would have loved to see the Winnipenguins happen, but oh well.
