The only 8th seed to make it to the final recently were the Oilers (in 2006 - knocked off #1, #5 and #6). I had thought that Anaheim had been an 8th seed making the final too, but I looked it up and they were 7th.
About actually just having the CHANCE to do it . . . couldn't tell ya, but an 8th seed has only made the final once before.
LA continues to look like the best-ever 8th seed hands down at this point, and certainly, they are the overwhelming favourites against Phoenix one would think.
interesting the only team to make the finals being the 8th seed was the oilers that year before that the worst seeding was before the expansion....... so i guess the answer to the question is there hasn't been..........
To my knowledge, the Kings are the first #8 seed to ever dust-off the #1 and #2 seeds in the same playoff year. So, there's never been a #8 seed that's knocked off the Top 3.
The Habs were the #8 seed in 2010 and went to the Third Round (losing to Philly). They beat Washington (#1) and Pittsburgh (#4) to get there.
