Al MacInnis was cut early from the team - as I recall, he just didn't have a good enough camp. Also consider that between Bourque, Coffey, Murphy, and (to a lesser extent) Patrick, Canada was pretty deep in offensive dmen. MacInnis was not a great defensive dman in his early career with CGY.
Roy, I don't remember why he was cut. Canada had plenty of good goaltending back then, and the 3 that went were certainly in their prime at the time (Hextall, Fuhr, Hrudey). Perhaps they felt he was too young at the time, despite the cup win in 1986 he only had 2 NHL seasons under his belt at the time. |
