July 1st it will start going again with all the free agents but I agree not as fun anymore like during the regular season and playoffs. |

Yep, today's the big day. The Sabres are prepared for the worst (though hopefully things will turn out OK), and have signed Mair, the Wings are negociating with Hasek, the Preds have re-signed Nichols, the Wild re-signed Koivu and Skoula, Tkachuk signed with the Blues, and the Bruins got Manny Fernandez.

| Mair's OK, and I think Buffalo will end up keeping Briere, simply because he's a great goal scorer, fast, and an all-around decent center. I think they should keep Drury though, because he's almost as good as Briere when it comes to goal-scoring, but he's also captian clutch, which has proven to be quite valuable in several Sabres games. |

C'mon Mik, Sabres should definately keep Briere. Look at his 95 points last season. His leadership will most definately improve and I think he was clutch through out the regular season. I don't know exactly how many 3 + point games he had but there were quite a few. He is a key peice for Buffalo's offence to work. Without Briere I think they will have to rely to much on the others and I fear they won't be able to progress like they did for a while. Stafford, Vanek, Pominville, Afinogenov, Drury, Hecht. That's the main offence for this team. I think they will have many injuries and will probably end up relying on Afino, Vanek and Campbell for the majority of their goals.
Did I forget to mention Briere's +17? Quite a feat and when compared to Drury's +1 I think the answer is clear Briere is the better player to keep. I can see a quite long career for him. |

Briere isn't so good that without him the team is doomed. He's very talented, don't get me wrong, but it's not like he's a superstar and everyone else is mediocre. Buffalo is a balanced team.

I know he chose Philly, but he would've had a better chance at the Cup with the Sabres. But the almighty dollar is ever present...$5 million a year wasn't good enough, he had to have $6.5 million/year...c'mon, with incomes like this what difference does $1.5 million make?
My real question is, why so long? 8 friggin' years?? My guess is he just wants to hang around long enough so that by the later years the team might actually have a shot at the Cup. He would've had less of a waiting time with Buffalo... |

Mik you seem a little mad at Briere going to Philly. Im just surprised that Buffalo didn't get one of the big 4 (Briere, Drury, Gomez, Smyth). I don't know if it's just me but I can't picture Buffalo doing as good without their 1-2 punch.
Second place is only first place of the losers. |

| I can't see them doing as well either, and I'm not really glad they lost Briere. And Drury now too. There's no way they're winning the East next year. WInning their division is a possibility, just gotta watch out for Ottawa. |

Guys like Afinogenov, Vanek, Kotalik, Pomminville, Hecht, Roy , Connolley, Stafford, Paille hmmm still looks like we have depth and I hope we keep Zubrus.
So who will be our captains?
Cambell, Hecht maybe Afinogenov since he's played a little bit more.

| I dunno about captain but I have a hunch they will pick up some guy during the off season and give him the A. Their players are pretty young so it's a hard decision. |

| Hecht, Cambell, Afinogenov, Tallinder, Lydman are the older guys on there team, the rest are young. If they sign Zubrus he'll get in A. |

| I think they still have Numminen. Numminen will get the 'C' with Campbell and Roy gettign the 'A's. With Roy's last season they can't deny him some captancy. 63 points and a plus 37! |

| Numminen is an unresticted free agen still and when Drury and Briere were injured for that one game Jochen Hect got the ''A'' and a couple games Afinogenov had an ''A''. Roy is still young. |

Just to add this, Briere has a no movement clause in his contract. So if he plays like s*** the Flyers can't move him.

brierre is a joke 1 great season does not make a great player look at his career stats ,, take him away from his dynamic in buffalo and you ahve yourself another just above par player,,,,,, drury has consistantly always scored more than 20 goals every year he has been in the nhl and has 37 game winners even when he was surronded by superstars in colorado he was still scoring the big goals brierre doesn;t bring half as much to a team as drury!!!
