Frankly, I didn't read every post on this thread so this is a response to the first 5-6 posts.

Let's review:

The reason for the CBA was not the amount of money the richest players in the league were getting, the reason for the lockout(primarily) were two reasons:

1) The overall % of salary spend vs revenue was too high
2) Long term/back diving contracts were circumventing the spirit of the salary cap.

The rules are structured in a way today where if an individual owner wants to spend a huge pile of money on players who may or may not deserve it, they can. They still have to manage to the same salary spend as everyone else. Also, the length and structure of agreements know doesn't allow a team to as easily sign a player to a contract they have not intention of honoring completely.

Now, this doesn't solve every issue out there but it solved a few big one's. The CBA will never solve every issue as owners, players, and player agents (who have a huge hand in creating issues with the CBA) continue to find loop holes in the agreement.

Furthermore, the CBA doesn't fix stupid. If NJ wants to pay Zajac as much as Getzlaf, that's the dumb owner and GM. However, the old CBA punished the smart and stupid equally. That is what the problem was and that is why the lock out happened. Under the new rules, the smart teams are no longer being punished by the stupid teams. The stupid teams only punish themselves.
