I am a huge fan of the Canucks... and a huge skeptic. Once, 4 seasons ago, I dared dream at the start of the season that the Canucks would have a great year, figuring it was even reasonable to hope they'd make the Conference Final. Sadly, I did not really think the Cup was attainable. That was the most I have ever dreamed of in October. Until now. I really think that this might be their year. They certainly have as good a chance as anyone of winning the Cup this year. They have the best goalie in the world, a solid defence - perhaps the best in the league - and, potentially, enough scoring to win a lot of games. Go Canucks go... This is your year.

I think the Canucks overacheived a bit last year based on their roster. They will still make the playoffs this year but there are 2 or 3 better teams in the NW that will win the division over them. |

Hey Blubberboy, I made your poll the feature poll on the home page. Did a little tweaking as you can see. Thanks for the contribution! |

I dont expect the Canucks to do any better than they did last year and we should probably expect to see them fall a bit. There have not really been any changes in the roster I just dont see any chemistry in them.

Hey Leafs rock Planet, The canucks won't do worse than the Leafs. Luongo will take them deep into the playoffs.

The Canucks have one of the best Defence in the league. Sami Salo,Kevin Bieksa,Willie Mitchell,Mathias Ohlund,Aaron Miller and Lukas Kraijeck is a good defence protecting the best goalie in the league Roberto Luongo. If they could get some more offence they have a really good team that could go deep in the playoffs.

They better have a great d, because they will rarely put more than a couple of goals up a night.
Honestly, I doubt they will finish higher than 7th or 8th. Colorado is a far better team than last year and they went like 22-3-1 in the last 25 games of the year. If they can keep that momemtum, and with Stastny and Svatos a year older, plus adding in Smyth and Hannan. Colorado should be the cream of the crop in the NW. I still don't think that Vancouver is as good as Calgary either. Minnesota is still very strong and they will be an even better team if Gaborik can stay health for 70+ games. Edmonton is really the only team in the division that is not as good on paper as Vancouver.
Luongo is the best goalie in the league today, but they will only have about 30 games against weaker teams (Columbus, Phoenix, Chicago, Edmonton, and a few others). That means the bulk of their schedule will be really tough games and I don't think any goalie in the history of the league can steal that many games.
Vancouver is about 3 injuries away from being a lottery pick team. They will not repeat as NW champs and will struggle to get into the playoffs.
I just can't see it any other way.

hey beans 15, get your head straight man, i'm in no way saying that the 'nucks are the best team in the league, but they're WAY better than calgary; this year especially! Calgary is made up of 2 players: Iginla and Kipprosov (i have no idea how to spell that). not to mention, what's down on paper doesn't account for heart, and fan built momentum... playing in vancouver, you've got one of the biggest, loudest (if not THE biggest and loudest) fan bases existing! that's why you see a lot of our goals coming from 3rd and 4th line guys that are just getting pumped up to be playing in that stadium! you can't compare vancouver to calgary, man. just look at the pre-season, vancouver won 4-0 in their first meeting, and in the second, vancouver scratched all their heavy offensive players (like the sedins) and played a lineup of almost entirely rookies against the best that calgary had to offer, and vancouver STILL won! i hope calgary makes it to the playoffs but if they're fighting for a spot against vancouver, it's not gonna happen. |

1) I am an Edmonton fan, so saying Calgary is a good team is very hard for me. However, they are more than Kipper and Iginla. How about Tanguay, Phaneuf, Huselius, Langkow, and Regehr??
2) If you are trying to compare Calgary to Vancouver at home, maybe it is you who should give your head a shake. Calgary had the best home record in the league last year.
3) The pre-season means absolutely nothing. It is half line ups playing against half line ups filled with players knocking the rust off. If that is the case, Edmonton was 5-2 in the pre-season. Does that mean they will win the division?? C'mon!
4) That's really it. I can appreciate you are a Vancouver fan, but think about: Vancouver has done nothing to improve their team over last year. Every other team in the division has. And if Luongo is anything but steller(which I think he will be, but if) Vancouver is one of the bottom 5-8 teams in the league.

Canucks are like a train building speed ever since the luongo trade. You think that they wont get the division your nuts (or beans). You can look at the canucks seasonal record but look at it like this. The Canucks had the best record in the league since Xmas last year. They will definetly build on that in the coming season. You can say the didnt do anything to "improve" there team. But it is really the managment saying "why try to fix somthing that isnt broken". Canucks have some of the best chemestry in the league aswell as some good old fashion fall support, as said earlier. GM Place has been sold out for years and is close to impossible to get tickets to. The feel in that building is electric on game night and that reflects on the players, hell the whole city is electric on game night. I cant see a single reason why the Canucks wont get the division and go deep into the playoffs this year. |

The Canucks are a one horse team. They have goaltending and that is it. Other than that they are average at best. Playoffs...sure if Luongo stays healthy. But otherwise they will be lucky to make the playoffs. |

The Canucks are an average team with much better than average goaltending. They'll make the playoffs, but won't likely finish higher than 7th or 8th, as I think the west is better this year than it has been in the past few years. Luongo is the main reason they'll compete every night.
As for playoffs, they may steal a couple of rounds, but I don't see a Cup in their future with no big-time goal scorer and Naslund on the major decline.

New Jersey is average at best with a good goalie they have won two cups, Buffalo with Hasek was average at best with a good goalie and went to the cup finals Calgary was average at best when the went to the cup finals with a hot goalie, Anahiem the year Giggy won the Con smythe rode a hot goalie. so did edmonton their last cup run. so whats ure point. not many offensive teams will win the cup u need a great tender to win. |

The first Cup New Jersey won, not only did they have the second most goals for in the league that year, but they also had Rafalski, Stevens, and Neidermayer. That is far from an average team with a good goalie. That is a very solid team with the best goalie in the league.
Buffalo, Edmonton, and Anahiem I can agree with. They were average teams that rode a hot goalie. What did they all have in common?? They all lost in the final/
My point?? A great goalie will only get you so far. There are not many average teams with a great goalie that will win the Cup. And most often, a good team will be a great goalie.

Add the 1995-96 Florida Panthers to the list of average teams that rode a hot goalie (Beezer) to the final, but lost. The Avalanche crushed them in four games.
